  • Does this roller coaster ever stop?????
    Emotional rollercoaster

Hi everyone things have really been up and down for me lately.  Heading to doctors on Monday as I've found a lump in my lower stomach but fingers crossed that it is nothing.

Will the time ever come when I stop thinking that every pain and every lump is the cancer spreading. The mind is an amazing thing but it is also a major pain in the ass. Even though things happen and you know it's fine the other part of the mind  just won't let it be. It is times like this when I think I am going mad and...

  • Sew I have cancer!
To be or not to be

    That is the question:
Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles

That really is the question. Do we take what life deals us with lying down or do we roll up our sleeves when the going gets tough and throw a few punches? With the help of a Macmillan nurse (who should be beatified in my opinion), I delivered a literary boff to the hooter.

This week things all got a bit too much. The sense of hopelessness over my...

  • My Breast Cancer Journey.
    Diagnosis

I was diagnosed with breast cancer on 18 June 2015. The previous week I was told they had seen an area of calcification on my mammogram which looked different to the previous one (my first). I'd had a biopsy of that there and then, which was a very unpleasant experience and I had not taken anyone with me for this appointment, expecting it all to be fine.

So, for the next appointment I took my husband, I also told my sister about it all, that I was going for the results and that it might mean...

    Day4-7 ups and downs

    hi,

so day 4-7 BEACOPP is done! Back to hospital in the morning for day 8 chemo. It has been surprisingly successful thus far, I am eating soo much getting a fourth meal everyday. always hungry.

i seem to be strong throughout the day with real desire to do stuff but then, some complete crashes where I fall asleep somewhat unexpectedly. Feel tired... But agitated.

some more interesting things from the weekend, what did we do that for in the rugby! It was the most ridiculous stumble to a loss I have...

  • Cancer, Me and Them
Don't slam the door on your way out...

Well that is it.  I have not long since come home parked Bob up and crawled straight into bed.

Chemo isn't going to let me go easily.  I felt instantly rough within minutes of the Cisplatin going in.  That is a first.  Good job it is also my last  for a while.

I have done it.  I have made it to the end of my first chemotherapy treatment plan.  12 sessions done.  At times I have physically dragged myself at others breezed it but mostly dragged myself.  For a period in the middle I didn't feel too bad but...

    Waiting for God…damned scan

PET (Positron Emission Tomography) scans are mainly used to detect tumours and metastasis. The patient receives an injection and the scan produces 3D images, highlighting areas where the resultant glucose is prevalent – such as cancer in cells. It seems to be pretty accurate, but is very expensive.

Mine is due on 5 October, almost three months after my treatment ended. This timing is normal, as 10-12 weeks are needed in order for the swelling and inflammation caused by radiotherapy to die down...

  • Thoughts and Feelings
    Saturday 28th September 2015

So last night was horrible, I went to bed ready to sleep and feeling exhausted and then all of a sudden a massive feeling of dread and panic washed over me, and 1000 thoughts went rushing through my head, after getting up and having a cigarette, then going back to bed, then getting up again having some paracetamol and more cigarettes I finally calmed down and got some sleep (albeit disturbed), then this morning looking on this site it was suggested that writing things down, my thoughts, my feelings...

    getting there

Just over 3 months ago, quite out of the blue after getting back from holiday, we got the news that my lovely wife had stage 3 Ovarian cancer, when we just thought it was food poisening.  She was also deteriorating fast due to more than 3 litres of fluid that had built up pressing on all essential organs and her lungs.  We felt a mixture of devastated and scared. (we are not otherwise faint hearted souls)  The consultants were worried about her deteriorating condition and rushed her into her first chemo...

    BECOPP day2,3 hospital time

day 1 is done and I got some sleep...

As my Etoposide was at 7pm on day 1 not allowed to receive until 5pm so I now know that I won't be getting out until late afternoon fol day.

a friend from the hospital pops in, followed by mum. So I spend all afternoon with company which definitely makes time fly. Scotland beat Japan...
