  • Stop this ride....I want to get off !!!
    Clipper Day.

    Friday 9th December.

Today I decided to get rid of the mess on my head that used to be my lovely hair. Ever since I can remember people always commented on it, it was thick and wavy, reddish brown in colour. Until a few years ago I hated it, but recently I've grown to like my hair.

Today was the day it had to go, it was coming out in handfuls,  so I went upstairs with the clippers and scissors and brushed what I could out and then decided to cut it first. I briefly thought maybe if it...

  • My journey
    End of term report

I’ve just had my latest set of scans (CT and MRI) on my bowel and liver.

And the results are……….(drum roll)… very good.

The tumours on my bowel and liver have had an excellent response to the chemo and targeted therapy I’ve been on. 4 sessions of Folfox and 9 sessions of Cetuximab. These haven’t been easy but I survived. The side effects have been difficult at times. I developed some nasty painful cracks on my feet, had varying degrees of nausea and I’m constantly...

  • “I’m excellent,” will be my new answer
    Strength through trials

Many ask how I am, some not really being sure what was wrong in the first place. I've been private for a reason, but do have a story. I have waited…. and paused, not knowing how to share properly. It's a very personal story due to the nature of my suffering, but I'm hoping someone else can takeaway encouragement if in a similar health situation.

This verse and many others helped me. Romans 5:3-5 ...but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance and...

    A Focused Mind

    Evening all,

Such a lot has happened since I last wrote to you all.

Uni has been keeping me busy, assignments to get in and lectures and seminars to attend.  Unfortunately so has the Bastard.

Symptoms have worsened, the incontinence and pain particularly, so much so I ended up in A & E twice, most recently needing several doses of morphine along with Entonox before the pain was finally under control.  I was transferred to a ward where I unfortunately had my worst encounter to date with the overstretched...

  • Stop this ride....I want to get off !!!
    Bin day.

    Thursday 8th December.

Thursday is bin day in our house. This bin day there has been rather a lot of my hair going into it.

It's been another okay day, nothing to write home about  except my hair is falling out.

I went to the shops early and kept as far away from people as I could as this week my white cells are having a holiday. The lady at the post office was moaning about being fed up and not wanting to be at work, I did for one wicked moment think that I could make her feel...

  • Stop this ride....I want to get off !!!
    A nice 'normal' day.

    Wednesday 7th December.

Today has been a good day again. I woke up at 5.20am, but had had a good  five hours sleep, and an hour before bed too, no sleeping tablets again. Things are looking up.

Another lazy day at home, tidying around, writing Christmas cards and walking the dogs while delivering the neighbours cards. I have never spent so much time at home while the business is closed, it's strange, we are usually away this time of year. It's quite nice to sit and relax and experience...

    Tired and fed up waiting

Hi this is my first time using a blog and I have no idea what I'm doing but I would like to share my story so far if that's ok . I am 59 and until recently worked as a TA in a local primary school previously I worked at a nursery for 16 years and in school 7 years and before that 14 years with a bank in the city I have been married 40 years and have 2 adult children . I took early retirement in August 2016 I felt increasingly tired all the time and found my working day exhausting I worked from 7...

    Deck the Halls and acceptance.

    Tuesday 6th December

Today has been a good day, I don't know how it happened but it's been ok. If Christmas wasn't around the corner it would've been better though.

I woke up about 5.30am, I didn't use a sleeping tablet last night so that was good. My temperature was fine, I hate taking my temperature, it's like waiting to have permission to continue the day if it's within the correct range, I panic a bit every time I take it.

I knew I needed to do the decorations...

    Trying to be an Angel

We all have been hit with an unspoken blow and I am sure like me we want to protect our loved one by doing everything for them but at times I feel like I am walking on egg shells, I am frightened to say or do anything to upset him for fear of feeling guilty, I am never shore if I should get him to carry on with life's everyday duties on his better days or encourage him out and having the fear that if you encourage him out if he picks up a cold it's my fault, What Do I Do,
