    I told them....
Well yesterday was an emotional day but one that had to be done. I finally told my parents that I have cancer. I braved up at about 11 o clock to call them with the news, and there was no answer again. I stupidly thought to myself, could is be a sign that each time I call to tell them, there is no one home. Could it be a sign that I would be worrying them for no reason and by some sort of miracle they are going to tell me they made a mistake and I do not have cancer. however about 2 o clock...

to blog or not to blog?

Ok, I'm here but so new to this, have thought about it so many times but scared of getting it wrong.

Why today?  Well this would have been my Mum's birthday, she has long since passed but I've really missed her on this journey and today I find myself tearful over that loss.  She was the one person who could tell if I was saying I was fine when really I wasn't and I'm sure would have guided me to ask all the relevant questions.

  • Reflection...
    Part two...
We arrived home and were no sooner in when we got another call from the GP. He told Alfie that they had a better picture of the lungs now and there was a real concern that needed to be investigated as soon as possible. He said that Alfie had a lot of fluid around his left lung. He told Alfie to pack some pyjamas for an overnight stay in hospital. He had already written us a letter and we were to pick it up on the way. Alfie was to be admitted into East Birmingham Hospital (bloody miles away from...

  • Reflection...
Maybe I will read it soon. This is how I remember it without reading the diary...
26th January 1985... The day I married Alfie. I was 3 1/2 months pregnant, much to my mom and dads despair! Lol the only reason I got away with it with my dad, was that we had already set a date to marry in the July...catching pregnant just meant we brought it forward a month or two! :0o Alfie was a very popular man. The life and soul of all the parties we got invited to... And we got invited to loads, because Alfie was such a fun bloke. Very kind and very loyal. We were happy....very happy...

  • For The Love Of Gordy - A Sister's Story
The Longest Night... And Day... And Night!

My niece Laura (Dougy's daughter) took me and her Mam, Alma to the hospice at teatime on Thursday 8th March.  My heart was in my mouth as it was raining and everytime she braked you could hear the discs grinding.  Replacements were long overdue!!!!!

We got there and Gordy was sleeping.  Mumsy and Dougy were still there and looked shattered.  We all got chucked out of the room while Gordy was fitted with a catheter as they had quickly assessed that he was in no fit state to get up and use the bathroom...

    Better News its not spread

I visited hospital yesterday and found out that my cancer has not spread its a little more advanced than we thought but should be operable.  I have been told that a third surgeon is needed for my operation so I know this should hopefully ensure all goes well.  Due to the complex nature of the surgery I may have to wait a bit longer as this will now be on the nhs and will take up to a month.

Yesterday I felt happier than i had in weeks so thats a step in the right direction.  I am also finally getting...

  • The page in the book I never wanted to read.....
    A positive day.
Today I decided I was going to stay strong and try my hardest not to cry. Kids off to school and jugs of water thrown down my neck ready for my pet scan. I have to say it was a big shock walking in, I was the youngest person there and reality hit when I seen other patients who had already been through chemo and were showing the side effects. I can only describe the feeling as OMG this is real, this is really happening to me....... it was eventually my turn to go down for the scan, I have...

    whats the benefits are benefits

Spoke to the Macmillian advisor at our local CAB today to be told that as we have some savings we wont get any financial help even thought my husband has been made unemployed recently:((

So we have to dip into our savings which should be their for us when we retire to fund our travels to and from hospital and parking:((

On the up side I did come home from work with a lovely bunch of flowers and a bar of choclate:))
