First blog, get up to speed!... 11/10/2013

    Hi

I have decided to write a blog to share my experiences and feelings on having to deal with someone close being diagnosed with Cancer. I hopefully want to help others deal with situations they face or get advice on ways I can deal with my situation.

Just to get you up to speed, in August 2011 my mum had an operation to remove her Kidney due to Cancer. In May 2012 we had the devasting news that the Cancer had returned in her lungs and unfortunately their was nothing they could do for her, no treatment...

  • Getting my head around it
    Progress report

It's a month since I posted anything but life goes on.  I'm on 3-monthly injections of Decapeptyl, -standard treatment for secondaries I understand.  Symptoms are up and down with corresponding moods.  I'm told that this is normal for anti-hormone treatment and I'd better get used to it.

On the positive side I have few hot flushes, mostly at night and they are mild, not real soakers!  My weight and appetite are the same and the old brain still works quite well in conversation and doing...

    need to know

had my p s a yesterday (plus that bleedin flu jab) but the improvement with waterworks has come to a full stop with another water infection so now got to have further investigations (biopsy etc) and an m r i scan tomorrow. follow that with another appointment with Mr Konerue (my specialist) next monday so it looks as if they are trying to get me sorted. only downside is it could take up to 18 weeks before i get the biopsy etc, suppose it depends on what my p s a results are.

    will keep you posted...

  • Finding out my Mum has GBM 4
    Emotional Rollercoaster

So its been about 3 weeks since my last post, Mum was/is doing really well and was having so many good days that they decided to reduce the Midazolam to try to get her off of it.  That went well for a few days, until she got down to 7.5mg and then she started sleeping a lot more (which we were expecting because of the phenytoin that they started her on again), but the amount of seizures also increased so I suggested the nurses increase it again slightly, and they agreed.

She's now gone into a very demanding...

    Two weeks later

    hi all

so today is sunday and i am feeling a bit tired today. had to have an afternoon nap. i had a few days ago a sore in my mouth no big deal. today i performed some blood tests. i have very high levels of GGT which is really disturbing. GGT shows problems in the liver. i have to talk to my doc about this. WBC looking good, this is because of the vitamin D i am taking, and RBC looking good too, lower than before chemo but still in the range.

    will update soon.

next chemo on the 20'th of octo...

  • Better than ever
    better than ever

i returned to work part time after receiving cancer treatment for most of 2012.  my employer is great at supporting my needs and letting me take my time phasing into work.  Like most people getting over cancer i just want to be like everyone else.  people tell me i look better than i did before.  i've lost weight.  take time out for myself. go out alot with friends now and think of my health.

i feel so much better, and sexier.

my reconstruction started last March 2013.  i had a tram flap procedure...

  • A Brand New Me
    My recent purchases

Recently my purchases of music have all been new albums to me, recommendations from various people who have been helping me with my ongoing project to find something different to listen to.  However this week I acquired two albums which I know very well.  I used to own them both but they unfortunately disappeared from my collection over the passage of time.

I can’t remember where they went, probably lent to someone and never returned.  It’s lovely to finally have copies back in the collection...

  • The day my Dad died
    The day my Dad died

It was silly oclock in the morning, I was having another nite of nocturnal activity...... this time it was different though. I had spoken to my two aunts to hear the daily up date of how my Dad was doing in hospital with his chest infection. He seemed well was eating better, now that we read the menu correctly and seen he could have it mushed down. Even talking about his renewal of the car insurance. We were rightly worried though, as in the afternoon his professor had came for a visit, to ask the...

  • Warm your teaspoon
    closer stuff

Well it has been a pretty good month on the whole and overall if you take out all the yucky mucky icky bits and multiply the good stuff.

The break from the radio did its job of lulling the feeling of goodness into a false sense of security until 3 days before daughters imminent arrival from Canada. Her arrrival was a real boost for the spirit. His mum would make a whole chapter on it's own. And it's probably best that I brush over the saga. Grrrrrr.

Health wise my man has responded really...

  • Dear Husband, I will be there for you, every step of the way, right by your side.
    Memorable moments

The phone call from our GP saying blood results were of concern :-( The phone call from Heamatology to say a mass had been found on hubby's neck :-( The consultant telling us the mass was squamous cell :-( Sitting in the waiting room on the cancer ward :-( Spoon feeding hubby lime jelly on the ward after tonsil operation :-) Laughing together about chest wigs :-) Watching John Bishop together and laughing together and forgetting bad stuff :-) Making massive puddings and desserts for hubby and watching...
