    Impromptu Trip to Oncology Department

Lots of excitement today as my better half arranged for an early appointment at hospital to address the amount of drugs I am taking and whether they could start to be reduced somewhat.  I headed for Southampton to discuss with the team, who had kindly offered to slot me in for a consultation rather than having to wait another week.  I came out of hospital with a reduced pain relief (less 25%) and the removal of one of my anti sickness medications and also the knowledge that I can stop taking the steroid...

  • Will I get Superpowers?
Wednesday 5 March, Levothyroxin Day 7

My kidney was less painful yesterday but it was a day of extremes - success if it was the finishing touches to BF's birthday present, but epic fail when shopping for me.

The camera I bought through eBay didn't work, and it took a phone call to them this morning for the seller to behave and refund my money. Now I've bitten the bullet and bought one I was watching as a backup. It's a lot safer but it's more than I really wanted to pay. I hope it will be 4th time lucky.

    Then I'd...

  • How Can You Find Normality?
    .
Hello readers. I'm a new user so please forgive me if I'm not using the site as it is intended. I will learn. My Mom was re diagnosed as having cancer again in November last year. It's a secondary cancer and it's terminal. It's in her spine and her lymph nodes. I don't really have any form of an outlet. I've tried to normalise the topic of cancer within my family and feel my mom feels as though she can speak to me about it however she wants, when ever she wants. I don't ever want her to feel...

  • Getting my head around it
    Abiraterone and Team Leucocytes.

I'll explain!  I'm enjoying the support of abiraterone from Dr Onc and his team of delightful staff.  I have to have prednisolone tablets daily and infusion of bisphosphanate every four weeks to make use of all the extra calcium I am taking daily.  This is intended to build up my skeleton where the rats have been at it and to prevent osteoporosis since I was chemically castrated by the above abiraterone etc!

The results have been good.  Not only can I walk without crutches or obvious limp, I...

  • After he has gone.......
    Coming up to a year...

6 days away from the first anniversary of the worst day of my life.  Cant help but think the 'this time last year' thoughts and whilst there is no way I would want him to go through the pain and despair again, I do so wish I could see/hear/touch/smell and hold him just one more time.

I think I have come a long way in a year. I am realising that bad days are the normal but they are interspersed with more brighter days now. It has taken me nearly a year to realise that I need to take time out...

    Not So Manic Monday...

another day another dollar, had a brief visit from an old judo colleague and a walk of the dog in the rain proved to be the highlights of a pretty uneventful day.  Managed to force some mince mash and swede down for dinner, and Doc has agreed to reduction in pain relief (just need to wait for paperwork to get to district nurses now).  that is all...

  • Will I get Superpowers?
Monday 3 March, Levothyroxin Day 5.

Yesterday was very quiet and so too boring to justify an entry of its own. BF had to go into work for a few hours in the afternoon, but if he hadn't he would have been upstairs playing games anyway. It was a bit too damp to go anywhere on the bike for fun.

So instead I spent an hour and 75p "admission"  "wandering" around an online boot sale. I didn't buy anything but it was still 75p well spent, almost like the real thing but without the noise, crowds and feeling obliged to buy things...

  • Life's a b* then you get leukaemia
    A major shock
So my partner has just had a diagnosis of ALL and I'm finding it hard to cope with, It's all come about so quickly, he was fine Monday, woke up early on tues for work and had hip pain. Went to the tram and fainted twice, an ambulance ride and hours in hospital later, we get told his blood count was low and abit 'abnormal' This was all I needed to know to know it was cancer. He had a bone marrow biopsy booked for the next morning but until then nobody would give him a diagnosis or even mention...

  • My daughter has always been perfect ... why did this happen to us?
    A terrifying journey

After four weeks of headaches, 5 GP visits, 3 NHS Direct calls, 1 out of hours Dr, an Eye Test and finally a visit to A&E ... my beautiful 22 year old daughter was rushed to Addenbrooks with a suspected brain tumor....  Within 6 days the operation took place to remove as much of this as possible.... this was the size of a satsuma in her frontal lobe...

The operation was a success and only a small amount of tumor and microscopic tissue remains... diagnosis revealed that tumor was rare and a lower...
