    The Storm part 2

We are now nine weeks into this storm and we still don't have a prognosis. The hardest thing is when your fifteen year old son asks if dad is coming home. He also said, "who will take me to the football now?" This is one part of this storm I hate. I think I can be strong through all of this, but when I look at our son, I crumble. David, my husband was an only child and our fifteen year old is his only child too. I was married previously and had four children prior to meeting David, yet he treated...

    The Storm

The Storm It's been four weeks tomorrow since I took my husband to the A&E after a week where he was so ill. Twice that week prior to admission my husband went to see our GP. The first time he was given Lactose and the second cream for his rectum. The doctor noticed my husbands rather large swollen stomach and commented on it, yet did nothing. To watch throughout five days your loved one deteriorate so fast was like living in a nightmare. Twice I called 111 and it was hard to stand by while no one...

  • BronB's Radiotherapy Journey - treatment to the Salivary Gland
Day 29 - 1 session remaining and today's has been tough
The day started okay, although I woke up at 5am! - we dropped my daughter off to her friends for the day so we could head to the hospital. I say the day started .... For me, my ability to get out and about means a 10am start by the time I have got up, started with pain killers, done the oral hygiene bit, let mum or my husband tackle the dried seeping mess behind and inside my ear (this is a twice-a-day cleansing job). I still haven't been able to muster the strength to wash my hair. It has been...

  • Dyad's second time around
    One for the birds

This morning I was woken up ridiculously early by the blackbird singing his heart out in the rowan tree outside our bedroom window.  I didn't mind at all:  at least he's a bit quieter than the song thrush who has occupied the topmost branch of the tree for the last several mornings, and all day long too, but who now seems to have been usurped by the blackbird.  The thrush has a huge variety of musical phrases that he sings twice or three times each.  To quote Robert Browning:  'That's the wise...

  • My Dad
    My story

My Dad died on 7th March 2012 after a long battle against cancer. It was a very difficult time when he died. I was 17 at the time and I was studying my A Levels to get into University. We had been told that it was expected that he wouldn't live very long, but that didn't mean that his death wasn't a shock because it really was. I was very close to my Dad, even if we didn't always see eye to eye. My biggest regret is that I didn't visit him very much when he was in the care home where he died, or...

  • BronB's Radiotherapy Journey - treatment to the Salivary Gland
    Sessions 24-28 - 2 remaining
I am going to try to keep this brief (it's 5.30 in the morning). My biggest side effect is an ear that is now blocked and seeping clear fluid from the ear canal. This has been going on since my last post and is definitely not clearing up by itself. The mac nurse took a swab today and we await results before my last treatment on Thursday. The skin behind my eat is decidedly split and requires daily cleansing very gently with boiled, aired water. My gentle mum is doing this. My facial skin I...

    Still Waiting
Apologies for not blogging for some time I have been busy focussing my efforts on getting better and this seems to be working albeit slowly. Blood test results received today were very positive allowing me to reduce one of the medications I take and I am now waiting for the next milestone which will be obtaining the results of my full body scan which I had last Thursday. My next consultation in on 22 April, but I am hoping for the results before then. Had a nice weekend away at parents which made...

  • The next battle
    SCT 2 day 5
So after leaving Pete for the weekend, I came back yesterday to find him in tears. He is so tired both physically and mentally. He's struggling to drink due to lack of thirst and afraid to go to the toilet as it burns like he's had a hot curry. The nurse bless her soul was so relieved to see me. She had been trying to encourage him but was failing to get him to drink more. His platelets were low so had a transfusion last night. But this has done little to help his fatigue or shortness of breath...
