  • BronB's Radiotherapy Journey - treatment to the Salivary Gland
One week + 1 day after treatment ended

Just a little update as to how I am doing since ending RT last Thursday (today is Friday) .....

At the beginning of this week I was having fatigue bouts but as of yesterday these seem to have subsided. I would say that I am functioning at 50-60% of my regular activity levels because I am not getting up early or doing school runs at either end of the school day. Also, I am not doing very much in the day and I am falling asleep by 10pm whereas before I was working (yes, maybe 4 hours per day only...

    Stragglers Smashed
Finally got scan results earlier this week which showed no signs of cancer, this, followed by a visual checkup from my oncologist gives me the all clear for now (although no guarantees that cancer will not come back) which is a great relief and now allows me to continue with my recovery. The oral thrush however is refusing to shift and swabs have been taken to see if an alternative form of medication can get rid of it. Eating is getting slightly easier although scar tissue around neck is somewhat...

    Frustrated and Waiting

March 18, 2014 I went to the Emergency Room with an ear ache I could not get resolved with antibiotics. They put me on stronger antibiotics. Suddenly, I am having severe breathing issues. I cannot swallow food without choking. I thought perhaps it was an allergic reaction to the new never had before antibiotic. The ER told me I had bronchitis.  I go to my doctors office for a refill on my nebulizer medications to see if I can get some relief for extreme breathing issues and she has me stay in office...

  • Dear Husband, I will be there for you, every step of the way, right by your side.
    Something else to worry about.

There have been so many times I have wanted to write more about my husband's cancer experience but things change almost on a daily basis post treatment and it's difficult to comprehend one state before moving onto another. It's all logged in my brain somewhere - hopefully, although much of the onslaught I wish to forget.

September 2013 saw us being collected by the laundry machine of the wonderful NHS and told we needed to be washed and treated for throat cancer. That time seems light...

  • My Mastectomy Journey...
    9 weeks post second op....

So i had my second op on Feb 21st.  All went ok, however had my Breast Surgeon tell me at my check up on April 14th that at the moment they arent happy with it and are giving it until August this year to see how it settles.  And i may require further surgery :(  Im back at owrk this week - half days though as im still quite tired :(

I work in the hospital and i had to visit the ward where i had my op and i had a small panic attack, i have no idea why.  very strange.

Im still unsure how i feel about...

  • BronB's Radiotherapy Journey - treatment to the Salivary Gland
Recovery day 4 - sore but less tired today
I am now 4 days into my recovery. It is bank holiday after Easter and I wanted to go to Bletchley Park with my husband and daughter. The forecast was nice and we haven't been before (and it is 8 miles away!). After waking up and having my usual Ready Brek for breakfast I showered and then cleaned my face. Plenty of 'goo' seemed to come off with each gentle wipe. I managed to get it fairly clean looking except the ear split at the bottom of my ear lobe. I used only a dry swab on this part today...

    d day -1

Well at least its sunny today.my last day of my mind tricking me into believing im cancer free tomorrow i have my pet scan and blood tests how ive come to hate that day. The hour wait in a dark room while the glucose goes round your body the 20 min scan and then the nurse telling you you can go and you know shes seen the results but wont say and then on friday consultation day. Ironic as it be a year to the day that i started treatment for my second occurance. The long wait in out patients as the...

  • The next battle
    SCT 2 day 11
Surgeon came yesterday afternoon and mri was done at 5 pm. Pete was feeling a little brighter and wasn't in as much pain. His neutrophils had risen to 0.4 the same as on day 10 with his first transplant. Dr came today and told us mri was ok and just showed a lot of swelling. His neutrophils had risen to 1.5 but due to infections he needed to stay in hospital another few days. He has 1 infection in his line and another in his urine which is hard to fight so iv antibiotics have to be administered...

  • BronB's Radiotherapy Journey - treatment to the Salivary Gland
Recovery day 2 - with photos (ouch!)
Today is Saturday (the Easter weekend) and my last treatment was on Thursday. Thursday night I managed to get to see Derren Brown at the theatre which took a 4 hour afternoon snooze so I was able to stay awake. Yesterday (Good Friday) we did nothing religious, instead visiting a friends alpaca farm for an hour. My mum has returned home for a week and so my husband is keeping the RT site clean. Anyway, Friday I managed to be awake for six hours and the rest of the time I slept .... I'm a big...

  • The next battle
    SCT 2 day 9
Well the last few days haven't been great. Pete bum felt as though it was bruised and although Dr's couldn't see anything they suspected a small tare inside it. A surgeon was requested to come see him to check if this was the case but as yet no one has been. The dr today said she would chase this up. he spiked a temp of 39.9 at teatime which nurses spent the night trying to bring down. Currently he is on 3 lots of high dose anti biotics for infection, suspected to have come from his back passage...
