    Radiotherapy

    Hi guys

Radiotherapy starts tomorrow - 20 sessions over the next 4 weeks and then one session of brachytherapy on November 24th.  Hopefully the next week I will be on a plane back to New Jersey.

I am not too sure if I should change my diet immediately to the refined food list as recommended by the hospital or continue with my healthy eating and adopt a watch and wait attitude.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Also I feel a little concerned about the permanent side effects of radiotherapy. Has anyone...

    Witter update

Not blogged for a while so I thought i'd better do an update. Ian had a blood transfusion last week as his bloods were 'off' They have taken him off the Cysplatin and Zeloda as it is not suiting him, though he had it in 2006 without too much problem, (if you ignore the fact that he ended up ventilated in ITU, but that was a minor blip!). He is now on Carboplatin. It doesn't seem to be bothering him too much, swollen feet but nothing much else. So, he seems to have plateau'd out at the...

    Recovery - Part 2

Hi everyone, we left hospital on Thursday evening with Andrew still feeling a little wary of getting through the night and being in 1 piece by morning. I understood his concern as he had to be rushed into ER the day after his biopsy last June - after catheter removal he could not pee so had to rush back to be emptied. And then just last week he had to be re-admitted after 1 night at home with abdominal pains (which turned out to the the 'kink' in his intestine.) The Doctors at Mayo also understood...

This time is a healer thing isnt working

Whoever said "time is a healer" made that up.  As time passes it gets harder and harder and harder - not easier.  I dont even know what to write, other than I am missing my wonderful dad more and more each day and the missing, remembering, and needing is impossibly hard.  He was everything to me...how do you ever feel better about loosing someone so special and central in your life?  I cant imagine ever feeling ok that he isnt here.

I lost him on 8th December 2008 and he was only 46 and me...

  • How I feel
    How I feel

It's very difficult when a loved one has cancer, being a carer, wife, mother,  to express how you are feeling without feeling guilty.

To watch the one you love struggling, when they are so determined, and not say anything,  all they  are really trying to do is protect others.

It has taken a long time to start my blog, as i find it really difficult to express how i am feeling, but have decided, now, for self preservation, its time to start.

    Dads goodbye

Today we gathered to say goodbye to my dad, so many people some who knew him for a lifetime, some a short while. Was so lovely to see and hear people talking about him with such fond thoughts.I was very proud to be his daughter. So proud he was welsh, so proud to say "that was my Dad", the service was lovely, the minister so kind.

Its a week tomorrow since I lost my wonderful Dad, I struggle with the fact it is over so quckly, people talk about life moving on..I cant yet....its too soon...

    Day 39 Bertiebassetts Return Journey

Claire really enjoyed the fund raising night with Ghosts and mediums and suchlike. Joni on the other hand said it was a lot of nonsense. But still I hope they have raised a good sum for Anthony Nolan Trust, I think they were pleased that Bert got a mention (not by name of course) but it was announced that he would be benefiting  from the funds raised as he is due to get his transplant in the near future. Bert still has an infected toe that is 6 weeks they have been treating it but with platelets of...
