  • For The Love Of Gordy - A Sister's Story
    A Really Bad Day

Oh how I wish I had had the courage to start this two months ago.  So much seems to have happened since then but I'm going to write this story from the beginning.  I promise to do it in stages though and will not give you the whole two months at once.

On the 3rd August 2011 I went to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough for evening visiting.  Gordy had been in hospital for a week.  He had acute gut pain and the plan was to give him a CT scan as they thought he had gall stones.  Two weeks previously...

In which LM braves the Trolls to buy a cooker....

Little My is getting bored eating take-aways as our new house doesn't have a cooker.. so today was the day we had to ...

Go And Buy A Cooker!       Eeek.

This meant getting up rather early and driving a long way from the little middle of nowhere town to the big town with big shops that might sell cookers.

Before we start, if anyone reading this works at either of the electrical appliance shops beginning with C, no offence to you at all.... (not sure if you can use names on here so will use euphemisms...

    What next

We have now lived through 3 different types of cancers and this time I am struggling to understand what we can expect , after loosing our sons's step daughter to brain cancer and then  for that same son to have testicular cancer which had spread to his abdomen seemed to beggar belief, he is now on the road to recovery and has returned full time to work last week after a year. but now we are faced with our daughter having been diagnosed with bowel cancer which has spread to her liver, she has just...

So my 25 yr old sister, claire, got dx'ed with cervical cancer about 6 weeks ago.  the worst thing was, i was in australia at the time.

me and  my gf went to see my sister after i landed.

i cannot understand what claire is going through.  25 is so young, you don't think it is going to happen.  you get a letter saying you have abnormal cells but everyone says 'oh it'll be fine, i had that and they just did the loop on me and i was fine'.  my gf's sister also came back with abnormal...

    Day one chemotherapy

That is the most scared I have been for years!!  We began the journey to the hospital at 9.30am for an 11.00 appointment  Bit better than the 6.30 start on Monday for the portacath to be inserted, but nonetheless after a sleepless night, early enough.

Although I have been through second-hand experience of chemo when my mother was treated some 25 years ago,  this time for my husband, the feeling of overwhelming despair was enormous.  The hospital were great when we arrived but annoyingly we had to wait...

Gettin used to the New Normal (or not)

Finally got internet so can get back on here and chat (oh no, too many words I hear you say) Ha ha I have got a week's worth....!

I love my new house. It is dirty and needs new everything but I love it. What I love best of all is that things work.... those of you that have been reading these tomes all along know that often in Little My's world Mr Sod Law likes to visit and stuff goes wrong at annoying times... well.. without wanting to tempt fate, recently things seem to be going very smoothly...

  • The mysteries of Mo
    September 29th 2011

Yesterday needn't of worried about Mo visiting the Day Centre for the first time she had a lovely time, her words not mine. The ambulance picked her up at 9.45am transferred Mo to a wheelchair but she managed to walk out to the chair. Two people came with the ambulance, the driver & a lady from St Michaels Hospice they were brilliant they put Mo at ease straight away. I got a bit emotional when Mo gave me a wave from the ambulance when they left & off she went. Luckily I had some visitors from the...

  • The mysteries of Mo
    September 28th 2011 (pt2)

Unfortunately I had to go out & do the 'boring' things today, pay the bills and do some grocery shopping couldn't wait in ALL day for Mo's medical equipment to arrive, between 8-5pm isn't 'a time' in my book. Luckily my other neighbour Val said she wasn't going anywhere today and offered to take in the delivery for me. Sue & Brian were away in Essex for a week, the holiday Mo & I were due to go on with them but Mo wasn't well enough, bit of a shame ,never mind, hopefully we will go on the next one...

Dad back home - stopped sutent but will hopefully start again in 2 weeks at lower dose

29.9.11 - dad back at home.  Was told to stop taking sutent (2 days ago) because platelet count low and potassium low. They would like him to have a 2 week break and then will hopefully start back on sutent - prob at the lower dose 37mg (instead of 50mg).  His blood pressure and temperature stablised 2 days ago (but they haven't managed to pinpoint the source of the infection).

Because of lack of dexterity in his arm/hand, he visited occupational therapists in hospital yesterday and they asked...
