From the Ashes Comes the Rise of the Phoenix

there is a saying in life that 'everything happens for a reason'.  At the time of my Cancer diagnosis I would have scorned disdainfully at this type of comment.  Yet as I approach the 4 year mark of undergoing the surgeon's knife for what should have been the simple removal of a benign cyst, only to wake up to the horror and realisation that the evil plague of Cancer had caused mutations that would require invasive neck surgery and an aggressive tonsillectomy, I realise that from bad and evil...

NEW BED HERE AND OPERATION DATE CONFIRMED

My new bed is here and assembled. It is so great. It's about fifteen years since I last had a bed but I got used to it in minutes. It's just in time. My operation is on 7th Oct, this Saturday in fact. This was confirmed yesterday. I have to start practicing with my false stoma, attaching the bag etc. I have told my sons how much I love them and my granddaughters, just in case the operation goes wrong. I don't expect it to, Southmead Hospital has one of the best urology depts in the country. I'm not...

    Stomach cancer

i have stomach cancer and awaiting an operation. I was  scheduled to have my op on the 29th September so after getting up at 5am and traveling 25 miles to hospital to get there by 7.15am i was told that the operation had been cancelled until 9th October but no one had told me that.

Administration was asked to postpone the date to give me more time to build up my strength for the operation which they did but forgot to tell me. Having gone through the cancer diagnosi, three sessions of chemotherapy...

    Devastated

So last entry was hooray , back to earth with a massive bump. My youngest sons best friends mum had breast cancer almost 5 years ago , and found out last week it has re-appreared in her liver and spine. She didn't want me to know , but my son has told me , partly for his own sanity I think.

How totally crap is this disease , why is there so much re-currence ? She had both breasts removed and has no breast cancer anymore in her breasts, so the cancer must have , like for most women , just...

  • My journey
    End of part 1

Last week I had an appointment with my oncologist to discuss the results of my latest scan. Always a bit daunting but as I’ve said many times ‘What will be will be’. She told me my scans and blood tests showed no evidence of cancer. I was officially ‘cancer free’. I have no cancer ‘on board’.

My immediate reaction was to burst into tears. It’s really odd but whenever I’ve had bad news (my initial diagnosis, finding out I had tumours in both sides of my liver...

A few days away and a decision made :)

Traditionally my husband  (Mick) and I take this time of year to have a break away from the humdrum of everyday life and reconnect with each other and enjoy a couple of our passions, this year was to be no different, our annual leave was booked and we were planning a trip to Budapest in out little sports car, a TVR Tamora for those who like cars, and a trip to visit the makers of Tokjai wines.

It became apparent earlier this year that we would need to rethink our plans, I didn't think I would...

    Strictly Un PC

Everybody is aware of the dark, pain and grief that all cancers can bring. Mine is an experience of hope and humour. Having lost a close friend in 2013  I decided a few months later to get a check up. No reason , just thought maybe I should. The results were an aggressive prostate cancer of my own. The roller coaster ahead was never up to me.If it was a high or incredible low was determined by results and decisions made primarily by others. What I found I could control was my approach.

    I have created...

    What next

Wow what a year and oh how my life has changed in that year.  I finished treatment in May and was drained following surgery for breast cancer last September followed by chemotherapy and radio therapy but I was determined to get fit and move on.  I returned to my yoga class (well not quite the one I used to do it's slower paced but yoga none the less), joined a gym ( never in a million years would I have believed I'd do that a year ago) and I swim twice a week.  I still have mobility issues with...
