  • Thanks Jo, I am fine about it and not down at all. My hubby is less than impressed, but I can't risk getting anything about this last cycle wrong at all, as I see the plastic surgeon on Tuesday, then the pre surgery meeting with the team is on the 27th Dec, where they give me a date and go through the finer details! I won't let anything disrupt the plans at this late stage. I need a full MX with full ax clearance, but have asked for a dbl (bmx) so will find out on Tuesday whether they will allow it. I need staged recon, as they can't do any clever skin sparing etc, so they need to do the expander thing to stretch the skin. It sounds yuk, but as long as I have a resemblance of normality afterwards, I can do it. Forgive me, but I can't recall what you have had done?

  • Hi Jo

Thank goodness this is your last chemo. Well done for getting through it.

  • Hi Jo

I eventually had a single mastectomy , after three failed wles- they kept uncovering more pre cancerous stuff they didn't show up on the scans (but was pre-cancerous, hadn't joined the party with the invasive lump by that time!) I was due to have the diep flap surgery after my chemo , but had had enough - I was diagnosed August 2016 and had mastectomy surgery April 2017, and just wanted to get back to some normality. I ended up having immediate implant reconstruction which was the right thing for me at that time, and I was so desperate to be rid of the bloody thing. I do now get pangs though , and am mourning it going in a way , but am generally happy - I can go back for more surgery if I want but at this moment I don't want to - I also realised with the diep that the tummy tuck appealed more , and to an extent still does!

Because they couldn't see all the nasty cells I did ask about a double mastectomy, they didn't say no but I thought I would wait until my mammogram (which was last August) as I was told they would do a very detailed look , particularly with something to compare , and all was fine.

You have to do what you feel is right for you and push if you want the double mastectomy , I know they say it doesn't show much difference in terms of recurrance but for my psychologically it feels like I've done all I can - just as a note , there was no cancer in the mastectomy pathology , so maybe the treatment killed it off , or they had actually for it all out anyway , will never know but I like to think the treatment got rid of any lingering bits.

I've rambled on a bit there, hope youvare soon up and about

    Take care

  • Hi Jo, it sounds like you didn't have much fun for a time there! I also know what you mean about the tummy tuck. I am 51 and my tummy has become soft and sticks out a bit now, which I hate, as I love to wear dresses and they don't look good with a tummy! I'd also like them to reduce my bust size, as I am wide busted. All this will be disussed on Tues of course. My surgeon is really well respected and actually did my sisters' private bust job and tummy tuck (vanity, not cancer). Did they class you as locally advanced. Were there any mets? How are you feeling now, physically and mentally?

PS, you didn't ramble, I was just getting into it, lol. Where are you based? X
