    Smiles

I take it back. Apparently I don't need to talk about how I feel at all to make me feel better. OK maybe a bit but that's not all because that would be dull and dreary. Trading bizarre things over the internet with my lovely friend while on the phone to her ranting in sarcastic tones about humanity was all it took to take me from calling her to say 'ARRRRRGH' right through to giggling my face off because I had completely defaced her Facebook page with inappropriateness that her mother and her boss...

    The Day of Two Halves

I'm starting to understand that most days at the moment are more of a wave of emotions rather than a stable leaning to one emotion or another and frankly it's likely to stay that way for a while. When I'm with people everything's fine, I feel like me and I laugh and the world is amazing. When I'm alone I am a bit like a hormonal teenager, completely unable to control the venom and despair pouring out of my head. One minute there's sadness that'll never end, the next I'm past that and desperate to...

    Playing it with joy

I've been trying to work out why it is that my blog entries always seem to be about birds.  But I'm not even particularly interested in birds!  Definitely not a 'twitcher' or anything like that.  Hubby (John) says it's because we spend a lot of time at the kitchen table at home watching them on the bird feeders.  But it's not that - I've been writing about birds in all sorts of different contexts.  I wonder whether it's somehow to do with the fact that their lives are so divorced...

  • Sublingual Salivary Gland Cancer- my journey
    Home and back in society!

I did indeed get to go home yesterday!!!! Lying here today can't believe that this part of the journey is over.

Medications I came home with Paracetamol, iron , mouth wash.

Things I've noticed since I got out..... Top of my right arm is quite swollen, I'm assuming this is from the blood thinners being injected there? Also slightly bruised. Seem to be in the edge of getting my period (2 weeks early) a bit of net research tells me this could be the effect of surgery.

    I'm eating quite...

  • Salvage radiotherapy - another journey
    Moving on

My post radiotherapy appointment, with Dr Payne’s team, was at UCLH on 28 June 2014.  The young doctor who saw me told me my psa was unrecordable and I told her the R/T experience had been a lot less traumatic than I had feared. Side effects were minimal and I was feeling pretty good. She suggested l stop the hormone tablets immediately. This was a pleasant surprise to me as Dr Payne had suggested otherwise. However, when we checked with Dr Payne, she said that I should continue to take the...

    Malfunctioning Ginger

In terms of me, myself and my alps, everything is fine. I think I've relaxed a little bit now I know the dates and the plan. I think I've also become even more pointless in my brain because I don't feel like I'm still holding my breath and all the wibbly wobbly-ness of the last 3 months is slowly escaping. That's my excuse for doing bizarre things anyway. Nothing awful, just apparently saying things that make no sense and not realising I've said them; forgetting things; being a bit vacant and the...

  • Sublingual Salivary Gland Cancer- my journey
Day 11 - I'm ready to go home now....

I'm ready- mentally and physically to go home now. Friday they said I was physically ready, but I just wasn't ready myself, but today I am, so hopefully I will be on my way tomorrow.

Today for breakfast I ate bread and jam, porridge tea and soup. With a tea spoon and a bit of occasional poking ( and the crusts cut off) it all went down. ( I know my hair will never curl!!)

MDT meeting Wednesday to decide if my margins mean I need radiotherapy or not, apparently one side is a bit close. Lymph...

  • Life really is a bitch......
    Waiting....
One thing I've learned as a cancer patient is patience. Everything seems to take so long. I've had two visits to Harefield Hospital now. The first to Dr Mcgonigle following the referral from Dr Mukherjee. He said he didn't know why I'd been referred to him as he doesn't do radio frequency ablation (RFA). He then said he thought I was suitable for that and got the CNS nurse to speak to me. Julie was lovely and explained it all, and how Dr Dalal worked. The next visit was to see Dr Dalal -all went...
