    Nowhere To Hide
Almost half way through week three of treatment and gradually feeling worse, as expected. Entrance to the throat at back of mouth is inflamed and sore, this is good as this is the primary target area now my tonsils have been removed and this was the source of the cancer. So with cells degenerating and regenerating in all the right areas, I am in no doubt that any straggling cancer cells are getting smashed to pieces by the radiation treatment and the battle is being won. Next stage will be further...

    3 and a half years.

it's now been 3 and a half years since i lost my mum, i now have a wonderful support system from 2 very good friends, where although they didn't know me when i lost my mum, they try their hardest to understand me and see where i'm coming from in certain aspects of my life.
one thing that is really getting to me at the moment is that my mum's side of the family don't really make any effort with me anymore, and when they do, i always feel like theyre doing it out of pity. as much as their...

  • Getting my head around it
    Tiredness, 3 December

I started writing this posting and I lost it!  Disappeared.  Trick of my laptop? Gone into The Cloud?

After months of lack of sleep I'm now able to sleep better.  When the pain from the pelvic fracture and RT was at its worst I couldn't get into bed or settle once there.  I slept in a chair in the lounge for a while. Next, I could climb into bed but had to sleep on my back, supported all round by pillows.  Now, at last, I can get into bed normally and sleep on my side, turning over as I wish...

    Busy Doing Nothing...
Woke up today reflecting on fact that apart from a couple of small meals, walking the dog, getting treatment done, constant gargling, and sleeping, I hadn't done much else at all. What a waste of time! But simple fact is I don't feel like doing anything which I know is not a good attitude. Christmas is coming but I am not looking forward to it, New Year celebrations are low on my priorities despite the fact I cannot wait for 2014 to start and put this unlucky year 2013 behind me and start to get...

Well Here Again Pain Relief Time

Yes i am up early again the pain still wakes me up generally it is well under control but when i give a sharp cough or shudder then this is too much and breaks the barrier, I really dont know how i am ever going to over come this in the near future, but hopefully after they have done their work then it will remove the pain also ,if not then i am certain that we will be able to over come it I had no information from the medical people this is not really what i need at a time like this i need to be...

    Oxiaplatin
I am on my second chemo cycle with the dreaded Oxi plus 5 FU. My main problem so far is a tight restricted throat, neck muscle spasm, lip spasms plus of course jaw pain etc etc. I am very careful re the cold. This seems to be an unusual side effect and would love to hear from anyone suffering the same. I am now on day 6 and it is still intermittent. Thanks

    The Spanish Armada?
Into week 3 now and RT11 completed. Alas the first signs of degeneration have appeared overnight. My first ulcer under the right side of my tongue has forced my hand into starting pain relief (gargling aspirin and use of bonjela, if allowed). Also despite eating as much as I want, including cakes, choc mousses, ice cream etc. I have lost 5lbs this week which isn't good. Might have to put some extra loose change in pockets for the formal weigh in on Wed as don't want to be tube fed just yet if I...

  • There is hope
    There is hope
I am just over 2 years down the line from my Bowel cancer diagnosis. It has been a roller coaster, but at the moment everything is looking good. Let's go back to 2011. A strange year. My sister hit the age of 56, which was the age our mum died of leukaemia. The comment was made by both of us that at least we were ok (she being 56 and I was abouts to be 49) a couple of weeks later, she rang me at work and I could tell from her voice that something was wrong. She told me she had rectal cancer! She...

    Into Week 3...
Not much to blog about this weekend, feeling pretty much the same as last weekend with a crap taste in mouth and taste buds and saliva glands on strike. Main thing is that I have no pain yet and we start Week 3 of RT tomorrow. Weekend spent watching lots of sport on TV, visitors on Sunday which is always good. Really struggling with sleep and surprisingly even though feeling tired I can spend hours lying awake in bed thinking about nothing and everything at the same time. Friday night I grabbed...

    Facing up to the future

They say we shouldn't talk about it; the ultimate, final journey.  I've had a down day when I tried to do too much and I'm tired out.  Although I didn't write this poem today, it does express something of how I feel.

    Death
    was always someone else's problem.
    Grandad, Grandma then my uncles
    aunts and relatives less known
fell ill and stopped by the wayside
their time to go came round
    like seasons with the sun.

They taught us not to call it
by its proper name but to use
    instead their euphemisms...
