  • There is hope
    There is hope
I am just over 2 years down the line from my Bowel cancer diagnosis. It has been a roller coaster, but at the moment everything is looking good. Let's go back to 2011. A strange year. My sister hit the age of 56, which was the age our mum died of leukaemia. The comment was made by both of us that at least we were ok (she being 56 and I was abouts to be 49) a couple of weeks later, she rang me at work and I could tell from her voice that something was wrong. She told me she had rectal cancer! She...

  • Smashing The Stragglers...
    Into Week 3...
Not much to blog about this weekend, feeling pretty much the same as last weekend with a crap taste in mouth and taste buds and saliva glands on strike. Main thing is that I have no pain yet and we start Week 3 of RT tomorrow. Weekend spent watching lots of sport on TV, visitors on Sunday which is always good. Really struggling with sleep and surprisingly even though feeling tired I can spend hours lying awake in bed thinking about nothing and everything at the same time. Friday night I grabbed...

    Facing up to the future

They say we shouldn't talk about it; the ultimate, final journey.  I've had a down day when I tried to do too much and I'm tired out.  Although I didn't write this poem today, it does express something of how I feel.

    Death
    was always someone else's problem.
    Grandad, Grandma then my uncles
    aunts and relatives less known
fell ill and stopped by the wayside
their time to go came round
    like seasons with the sun.

They taught us not to call it
by its proper name but to use
    instead their euphemisms...

  • Am I dreaming or is this really happening? I'm only 36! Breast Cancer... me? How?
Talk about the wind out of my sails!

2 days ago I was told I have breast cancer, I only went for the checks to be on the safe side after finding a lump, I'm only 36 so what were the chances of that? I couldn't help that think they had the wrong person when they told me, I'm happy go lucky Marie this doesn't happen to me it happens to my parents generation, but the Macmillan nurse told me to prepare myself for next weeks appointment for a treatment plan and discussion, I didn't even realise it was a Macmillan nurse until my friend told...

  • Getting my head around it
    30 November coping at home.

Pain-wise I'm not too bad just now.  I can sleep on my side at last, for the past two nights, so I have removed the bed cradle that kept the clothes off my toes when I had to sleep on my back.  Appetite is OK but I can't taste much unless it has salt, sugar, chillies or curry in it!  I'm not fond of very sweet things so I go for standard food and muesli cereals with fruit rather than exotic cuisine.  Weight is steady, I'm not getting fat and lazy as they said I would on these drugs.

  • My New Fight With Cancer 2013 Nov
Sat here woken by pain 5:00

Well I am back adding to my story, the pain in my cheast plus my noisy breathing woke me up and I had to come downstairs to have some pain relief, then I thought I would add to my Blog, I do forget if I have told you all about the fact that the occupational therapist came and said that I needed a rise and recliner chair to help me to relax and stand from sitting which I am finding difficult, to do as I get so breathless, as well as that I had a phone call from my Specilist Secretary saying that they...

    Day 13 - The (Un)Lucky 13th
An early appointment in RT this morn meant having to wake before 7am (was like having to get up for work - not nice). Got thru salisbury quickly and arrived early at hospital. Only 2 other people waitng so decided for first time to be sociable and talk, rather than keep myself to myself. It soon became apparent how lucky my type of cancer wasn how lucky I was that I had found it early and how lucky I am that I have a plan that will make me better. My new 'friends' were much worse off - second round...

Day 12 - Downs and Ups
The most efficient trip to the Oncology department saw me arrive yesterday to a comparatively deserted waiting room? Within 5 minutes of arriving I was called forward for treatment. A bit confused I asked where all the patients were. I was told that my first 8 days of a cram packed and somewhat apparently chaotic RT department was not the norm. One of the four RT scanners had been getting fixed and now it had been half of the patients had moved to another ward. All being well my average hour trip...

  • I need to get it out
At least it takes my mind off it.

I find this so difficult to locate..... finding how to put a blog up, but at least it takes my mind off everything else, at least on the days that I can face the hunt. In fact it has taken me so long that I am off to do something else now.
