I appear to be a master in all three at the moment.
The appointment with the haematologist was painfully brief after a horrendous 2 hour wait. I got to leave with the gift of a massive painful bruise where the phlebotomist stabbed me so they could peer at my blood again. It looks a little like a duckling so it has the added bonus of being vaguely cute as well as rather inconvenient.
When I did finally see his pleasant smiling self, he inspected the assortment of lumps and bumps before declaring...
Remember the Carpenters song Please Mr Postman? Well I'd like to sing it to our postman, no results yet and past the 2 week window. I forget about it most of the time, but it seems so long since I first had the bleed when it's really only a couple of months. Friends are asking me if I've heard yet. I receive it with good grace (they care, I know) but it's kind of like when I was past due with my kids and occasionally well-meaning acquaintances would greet me with 'You're still here...
It's happened again: I had a phone call yesterday from an old friend who asked me how I was. Of course I told her about the difficulties I was having with managing post-radiotherapy bowel symptoms. Big mistake. Because this particular friend is really into alternative therapies, as well as being an evangelical Christian. She started by telling me that she had a cold that she was 'treating naturopathically'. I asked, 'what does that mean?' 'Well, I'm dosing myself with this marvellous...
By the Sunday, he was still in incredible pain and the painkillers they were giving him were not even touching it. An emergency pain doctor (I think that's what he was called) was brought in to see him and asked him what the result of the CT scan was. As it had only been done on the Friday, we had not been told. The doctor went away, came back 5 minutes later with a nurse and shut the door. I was still unaware, even with that, that there was something wrong. What he then told us has changed our lives...
It's been a few months since diagnosis and going through the motions with treatment but I don't know if I have, or ever will fully accept it.I'm meant to be making memories, stories to tell the grand children in my old age, but I won't ever grow old.
I'm meant to making memories, stories to tell the grandchildren when I grow old ... But the truth is I won't ever grow old.
I recently married, bought our first home together but all I keep thinking is How long will this last...
I've had enough of this journey, can someone please stop the bus so I can get off? After finding out on Friday that M would need the GSF injections and collecting the kit on Monday I went into a bit of tizz as I'm borderline phobic of needles and I had been told one injection a day for seven days for the rest of treatment, we've a sharps bin big enough to accommodate needles for the next ten years that's just sat looking at me all the time. Every time I get a dose out of the fridge...
I’m sending at risk thatreception's not chilly,
I'm sorry, I’m honest, the future's not frilly,
Stick with it, I know that the rhyming's quite silly,
It had to be so, can't you see?
It got me, because I can stand on my head,
I wear fluffy bed jackets propped up in bed,
I can carry off lipstick with no hair, she said,
It had to be so, can't you see?
If you've half of a mind, we've half of a chance,
Look inside, you're given an ultrasound glance...
So today I went and picked up my dad as he was having a good day, he was a little nauseous in the morning but he took his tablets and he was fine.I took him fishing with me today, it was a bright crisp winter day a soft breeze and still water. We had some very special chats and lots of laughs.it was so nice to sit on the beach having soup and our rods in the water, honestly not catching a fish didn't bother me, spending time with dad was brilliant.I also got the courage to take some pics of him and...
