The man who bangs the table...

My son is terrified of ‘the man who bangs the table’. When he hears him, he freezes, eyes wide and immediately grabs my hand. When we are out and about, if he hears a banging noise, he immediately reaches for me, and whispers ‘the man, banging the table’. Its his biggest fear. The man who bangs the table is just our neighbour, who doesn’t actually bang the table, just has a chair that squeaks the floor when he moves it. Despite explaining this numerous times to Theo, ‘the man who bangs the table...

It was so horrible when the alarm went off 4.45am today and I moaned but then remebered it was Tuesday and it was The Royal Marsden drug day. But it was also scan day and this will be the last one before the end of the 2 year trial.

    Laser Treatmen following prostate cancer

My father was diagnosed with prostrate cancer about 18 months ago and had intensive radiotherapy daily for 5 weeks at the time along with hormone treatment.  A few months ago he went back to the doctors as he was still losing blood and they suggested laser treatment.  He has just had a further treatment and found it excruciatingly painful and has said that he will not have the treatment again as he found it to be painful and intrusive.  I'm just wondering what will happen if he does not have another...

    Surprise Appointments...

I am writing today so that I can vent some frustration from a pretty tough weekend and also to get other people’s point of view on this subject as I'm pretty sure I won't be alone in my feelings or my situation...

To cut a long story short on Saturday I received a very unexpected appointment letter from the hospital to go in on the 26th April for a full body bone scan.... Why do you get an appointment letter with no explanation?  I’d had a CT scan last week (for a muscular pain I haven...

  • My journey
    End of week 1

Well, I've had the CT and MRI scans. I'm due a colonoscopy tomorrow so hopefully the docs will have all the information they need to see what can be done.

Can't say I'm looking forward to what the doctors will tell me but what will be etc.

I think it's the not knowing that is getting to me. When the full diagnosis is known and, hopefully, a treatment plan is put in place I can move forward.

The internet is a wonderful thing but when you look up information about cancer it can...

    BM10k

Well I did the BM10k run on Sunday. And it sure was a lovely sunny day for it. Perfect in fact. It was the BM10k I did it's before the Brighton Marathon which I did last year, So thought I'd do the easier one this year. Bit late getting there, I made it just by 2 mins before the start of the race, I had to run like hell for a mile. Nice warm up though. Next time always leave a lot ealier even though I was staying with a friend and he did say don't worry loads of time. Not realising the traffic, He...

  • Caring for mum with terminal lung cancer
    Monday

Mum had a bad night last night. Woke up with pain around her abdomen. She thinks it's from coughing.

Mum is totally bed bound and I'm caring for her at home. Last week I had to be signed off work by my GP so I could look after her.

Mums breathing a a bit crackley today and eaten next to nothing.

She's also become really skinny over the last 3 weeks due to her poor appetite.

Not sure what's coming next! At least she's still got all her marbles!

had op! drains are a pain

Well, Thursday came round and I wasn't really nervous just wanted it over. Walked down to OT, got on bed then next minute waking up, to the nurses talking about who they fancied, so I butted Gerrard Butler, it was actually 5 hours later!

then the next thing I asked was it just the two nodes, to be told no all of them, so I said chemo then.

had to wait two hours for bed, ended up in a private room! How jammy! Didn't really hurt, first thing phone dad let him know I'm ok.

  • Never thought this would happen to us
    Sunday, bloody Sunday

Every day is bad but Sunday is the worst. This was our special day, and being alone hits doubly hard. In the early days we would play tennis in the morning and then go to a pub with friends, once we retired it became a long dog walk in the morning, leisurely breakfast with the papers,  gin and tonic with chilli puffs and beef jerky and a special dinner that we had chosen together. Then a quiet evening finishing the bottle of red and watching something together. Nothing exciting, just doing what we...
