  • Cancer just messed with the wrong boobs!
I'm too busy to have cancer
So my next appointment comes around (16/6/21). I'm told I can take someone with me. My mum, whose finally realized that this is serious decides to join me. Previously she was in denial, saying I needed to be positive but she wasn't in the roo...

My ramblings....“With hope in our hearts and wings in our heels”.

“With hope in our hearts and wings in our heels”. Excuse my ramblings.

I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer just before Christmas, I am 52 years old and I must admit it came as a complete shock . I started having chemo every 3 weeks and I am now having it every week, I am 9 down and 7 to go, not that I’m counting !!!! In fact, as I write this I am wired up having chemo number 10.

The worse side effect I have experienced is that this whole process has completely effected...

  • Cancer just messed with the wrong boobs!
    Probably just a cyst......
On June 6th I got out of the shower and looked at myself in the mirror. I thought mmmm, that looks odd. My right boob had a sort of dent in it on the outside. I carried on with my day but that night in bed, lying on my back I had a bit of a feel arou...

    Deep sigh!
Today I am going to my granddaughters birthday party and I am worried about what to wear. I can only wear my sports bra for a short while because it irritates the scar so I’ll have to go droopy. Whatever I choose shows the remaining boob so I w...

  • Bawbee's Journey
    02-Jul-2021
Halfway through radiotherapy after today’s session and very tired and sore. After yesterday’s session, I had to call the radiotherapy nurse helpline after a very sore bout of coughing and vomiting. I had to revisit Ninewells for an a...

    #7 Meds, meds, meds
Eighteen months ago I took one vitamin tablet and one anti-histamine, both over the counter and not on prescription. The only reason I went to see my GP was every three years for routine smears and the occasional minor problem. Roll the clock forward...

Reason not to be too depressed
    • My CT scan detected a serious obstruction in my sigmoid colon. When I had my operation on Monday they did find obstructions higher up, but the main 'tumour' turned out to be the mesh inserted after a hernia op a few years ago. So no need for a stoma, and a much quicker recovery time than had been expected. My  surgeon saiid he always treats the patient not the scan. Of course that means they might find problems the scan hasn't revealed, but it does provide reasons not to be overwhelmed by...

  • Facing the future: Together
What a way to end June 2021

Things have been such a rollercoaster for us over the past year.

It is hard to believe that just over 13 months ago at the beginning of May 2020, Dal was diagnosed with Stage 4 Oesophageal Cancer with secondaries in his lung, liver and lymph nodes,  T3N3M1 GOJ.

13 months ago, we learnt that Dal had a terminal illness, that he was not expected to live for more than a year, (and that was with treatment) and that Life as we knew it was Never going to be the same again.

Dal and I spoke with our families...

    #6 The Treatment Train
On the Friday afternoon I had my last pre-treatment call from one of the chemo nurses. Talking me through what I needed. I took far too much with me as it turned out, but better that than being left high and dry I thought. I was advised to take drink...
