Radiotherapy - One Week Later

It's been a week since the daily trek to the hospital and I'm reflecting on the side effects of radiotherapy.

On the plus side, the skin has coped well and isn't red or sore, no fatigue (yet) and I have been working normally, in fact it's been crazy busy at work. We had a weekend away in the campervan making the most of this amazing October weather and I've travelled for work. All good.

On the down side, my boob is still tender to touch and there are a few unusual lumps and bumps. The nurse said not to be concerned about this (yet) but it's really difficult not to worry about  the slightest lump though I know radiotherapy can change the shape and cause some swelling. We'll see how this is in a few more days.

Radiotherapy was my last major milestone of treatment, though a variety of other bits and pieces continue. I still haven't felt that emotional “wow, it's over” relief and perhaps I never will. I have dealt with this whole thing in my usual pragmatic and logical way, maybe I'll deal with coming out of it with the same attitude. In the meantime….back to work!

  • I do wonder how I will feel when I get to the end of treatment. I know what you mean about lumps and bumps, my boob still feels very strange. In a morning it feels almost swollen. I hope it improves over time.

Ive it touched my good boob, I honestly darent examine it yet, I'm too scared to.

The weather has been amazing, I've walked and walked and listened to some amazing audio books and podcasts.

  • I never felt a "wow" factor moment either. I struggled in the last lap at 13th day of 15. Just glad it was finished with and that I didn't have a 16th !!!!! I was just annoyed that a telephone appt with lead Radiotherapist was changed at least 3 times, she told my G.P. I was fatigued (probably because I was so irritable with it being changed so many times!)

  • Any podcast recommendations? I am bored with mine

  • 15 days is long, I was lucky to only have 10 in the end

  • Glad you got there ok, pragmatic and logical sounds like the way to deal with it. Always great to read your blog, radiotherapy is next on my list apparently so thanks for the useful and practical info too.

I love to hear that you worked through it, I worked until the day before surgery and want to return before radio but struggling with practicalities and not knowing details for radio at the moment.
