    I'm upright and typing...
Sometimes it seems like the agony is never going to be over. One new thing after another for me to the point that the unexpected is the norm. But what it has done is make me hypervigilent about my body and any new 'symptom' makes me like a deer in the headlights. Last week after chemo #5 I thought I was having a reaction and went right to the hospital...boom. The docs are still not sure what happened but I feel pretty certain that I did. From there we develop pneumonia and get tapped for #12...

    Marathon run
Hello everyone, I am here today to be cheeky. My son is running the London Marathon in memory of his dad Ray Hill (whose memorial is on this site). He is raising money for the local hospice where his dad spent his last days (a charity which his dad chose). If anyone would like to sponsor him you can do so on justgiving.com/stuartphill. I know this is naughty but it is a cause that is close to my heart and as the hospices are charitable organisations, they need all the help they can get...

    Bowel (Rectal) Cancer
Peter's cancer in a nutshell. Nagged him senseless to go to the Doc's for a checkup last year, due to altered bowel habits, especially at night and falling asleep more often in the day than he was allowed! So after lots of sulking and arguments he finally went [October 08]. What stopped him was that he was scared of needles and knew he would have to have some blood tests! Doc found the tumour during her initial 'gloved' examination. He had his bloods taken, without passing out, which is normal...

    cancer reading material
Hi everyone, thought I would post this and see what happens, I have been, along with many other people i am sure, looking for articles and stuff about cancer- in particular ovarian cancer ( being selfish), and i read in the paper last week that there is a new magazine out aimed at people with cancer called c21. I had not heard about it so have ordered it online, has anyone else heard of it- it apparently launched in December, and i have to say it looked pretty good on the blurb ( they all do though...

    Flowers
Is it a myth or fact that cancer patients undergoing chemo shoud not be given flowers or plants? I have heard this and am concerned because mum has been given some flowers. Strangely enough she got the flowers on Thursday, she was doing really well and looked good and today she is low slept all day and actually asked to go back into hospital because she hasn't felt well at night for the last couple of nights and she feels safer in hospital.

    Happy holidays!
Have booked a holiday, going away next Friday. The Oncologist said if we want to go away, to go now as my husband is well at the moment and he can start taxotere treatment as soon as we get back. there is less chance of this working than the original chemo, but we have to try. It is seriously so scary, we thought we would have the summer to act normal and he would not have to have any more treatment till much later. The Ocologist said they hoped it would be stabilized for 6-8 months, and he was rather...

    Effects of Radiotherapy
Hi I am new to this but would welcome any thoughts on what I am going through at the mo. I had a mastectomy and full anxillary clearance in April 08 followed by 6 sessions of chemo and 13 sessions of radiotherapy which finished Nov 08. Except for the painful burning under my arm at first I have been feeling very well and in no pain. In March this year I have been feeling incresingly tired and have been in pain in my left "breast" under my arms and in my top left rib. My GP took a chest x ray and...

    Another Day Closer To Knowing
Thanks to everyone for your messages of support - It's good to know that I'm not alone. That's another odd thing - I don't feel alone. I thought I might, along with the fear and emotion, but there's nothing - nothing different, anyway. I have always been able to compartmentalise my thoughts, filing stuff away in my head, then taking it out to have a look. If there's nothing I can do at that moment, it gets put back again. I think that's what I'm doing now. I know I've got cancer - but - until the...

Mum in Law diagnosed pancreatic cancer
My husbands mum was seen by general surgery consultant last Monday after previously having had ultrasound and body scan We were told there was a tumour on her pancreas and cluster showing on her liver - I understand that it is difficult to dianose in the early stages Unfortunately as was spread to liver was inoperable and the way forward was to have a biopsy to the liver to confirm consultants diagnosis - we went home in a daze Later in the afternoon - telephone call from nurse to arrange biopsy...
