how can i get my mum to talk instead of shutting me out

In 2007 my mum had breast cancer at the age of 69.  She needed radiotherapy only and made a full recovery, she went for screenings and only had to go once a year as everything was ok.  Mean while from 2008 she started suffering from frequent water infections, would complain of a pain round her front to half way round her back on the left side.  She must of put a water sample in every week fortnight for almost 18 months.  Numerous water infections were detected and anti biotics were given.  Eventually...

    Chemo 3 Day

Chemo 3 went without a hitch this morning. Sal is already feeling the effects; starting to feel tired, funny taste in her mouth.

They did notice that Sal's red count is down so she is anaemic and that might explain her breathlessness and excessive fatigue. So they have scheduled a full blood transfusion of 2 units on Monday. Even that is a bit of an ordeal. Each unit takes 3 hours and so it will turn out to be a long day for her especially when she is going to be already fatigued from the chemo...

    Three months on ...

Today its three months since my step-dad died.  That's 13 weeks since we held his hand as he reached the end of his journey. So how are we doing? Well, Mum is doing amazingly well. She has even been out to a couple of functions that she would normally have attended with him - and the fact that she coped, and enjoyed it, has given her confidence a real boost. She has a little colour back in her cheeks, and may even have regained a bit of weight. She has told me that she still wakes up and thinks she...

    Chemo finished - results in!

I have now finished my chemo (Alimta and Cisplatin), had my CT scan and I was given my results yesterday.  The meso is stable and there has been no spread - yippee!!  I don`t have to see the oncologist until September so I am now looking forward to a good summer with my husband, sons and their families.

Joining the MacMillan online community has been one of the wisest things I have done recently.  There are so many inspirational people on the site and I have found all this first-hand information so...

Nearly at The End of My Babes Journey!!

I have just been told by the doctor that my lovely husband is no longer terminally ill but is now dying! This year has flown past and although we all knew what the outcome would be I am still in shock at what the doctor said.

Tom (My Babes )is at peace with himself  and is ready for the last bit as he calls it! and he told my brother that I need to accept it too, I do but how do you say good bye to the man I have adored for the last 38 years!! it's too soon!!!The saddest thing is that he will not...

    OMG! Here we go! (No.2)

    Hi Guys

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyones comments to my first 'blog'.  Its wonderful to know that so many people are sending me good wishes and that I am not the only person going through this.

Trying to get organised for next week - went shopping for 'button-front' pj's etc for the hospital and treated myself to a few extras also.  Gary my Hubbie has a golf break with his buddies with weekend, and I am trying so hard to get him to go.  As I have said to him, its...

It's been really difficult for me to talk about it

hello my name is chansey. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in september 2008. I have been reading the macmillan site since then but never had the courage to register and enter discussions. I've had a mastectomy, lymph nodes removed, 6 months chemo, 5 weeks radiotherapy, herceptin which I finished this february and at easter I had reconstuctive surgery. Now I've finished treatment and have had time to reflect on everything. I haven't spoken properly to anyone about all of this, I permanently got...
