    My wonderful mum's terrible journey

Hi, just like everyone else I'm new to this.  My wonderful, absolutely, brilliant, intelligent mum was taken into hospital in Stirling on 24 Mar 10 and told she had a brain tumour.  My mum is only 67 and the most intelligent and placid natured person.  She is a very young and independent 67 yyear old, going on holiday on her own to Australia, Tour of Italy, Tour of China (was booked to go to Cuba in September this year).  She was then diagnosed with gliabostoma multiforme grade 4 and had the operation...

    Confusion over Hickman Line maintenence

Everywhere I look I get conflicting information on how to carefor Sally's Hickman Line. Some trusts say flush twice a week, some once. Some trusts say use a Heparin lock, some don't. Some trusts say aspirate before flushing, some don't. Some trusts use a bionectar, some don't. In fact, there is even confusion within my local trust because on the Oncology ward they flush once a week and don't use bionectars whereas at the Oncology Outpatient Treatment Centre they flush twice a week and use bionectars...

    Xeloda has failed us

Latest CT results show cancer continues to spread within organs so Xeloda not working. Onc decided side effects not worth it and has taken mum off it. It was the final, final treatment. Lymphodemia in second arm so bad now they're not allowed to puncture her there any more, and despite numerous pricking in feet can't get blood from there either. Luckily can get bisphospherates in, just no blood for testing out. So just increasing palliative care now...

    OMG! Here we go!

Hi everyone, have just joined as I thought it would help to put things down on paper.

Started a few weeks ago, thinking I had a lump in my left breast.  My Mum had breast cancer 27 years ago at the age of 35 and had to have a left breast mastectomy (and is still here to tell the tale).  On being referred by my GP, discovered nothing on my left but two tumours on my right, which after biopsies, came back as positive - I have breast cancer at the age of 36!

Things have moved very rapidly since then...

    out with the old!

Today I am conscious the recent Dx of CMML for my father in law has totally changed my life,

I feel totally different in so many ways,

It's not poetic, I feel humbled, but also enlightened ....I know that sounds crazy, (My hubby looks at me strange too) but it's true,

I know what's important now ......... (see... you can imagine his face?!) and I have so many blessings to count, I'm counting all of mine twice x

    Away in the Caravan

I just wanted to give a quick update to the blog as I haven't been updating the Latest News for a few days and I wanted to explain why.

We actually managed to get away for a few days in the caravan! Yippee! OK, we didn't go very far... just 3 miles actually!!! We went and stayed on the site where we store the van in Landrake, just 3 miles west of Saltash. We were hoping to get away to a friends birthday party near Redruth but we felt that 50+ miles was a bit far in case we needed to get to the...

Feeling scared and not knowing what the next week brings

I found out that my mum has 4 tumours in her brain after she was had a seizure now as we know - Jacksons seizure. That was around 4 weeks ago and every week we are seeing her change and her life become more difficult. The first couple of weeks were spent discovering if she had cancer elsewhere in her body. Now we are assured she hasn't and it is the ones in her brain alone. She had to undergo a biopsy and they decided that RT was the right treatment for her. I don't understand the choices of treatment...
