end stage stomach cancer and not knowing mom had it!!

Less than one minute read time.

i was told 2 days ago that mom has maybe 1 - 4 months left, she has advanced stomach cancer, she has never been seen about this before, she was in hospital 5 months last year due to a emergency op on a strangulated hernia, she had a 3rd of her small bowel removed, from that she went septic, had pnuemonia, caught mrsa in the wound. she came home christmas but was never right, couldnt eat, was losing weight, the doc put it down to been very ill previous, in 10 months she lost 6 stone. i phoned a ambulance 2 weeks ago cus she was short of breath and very weak, and now this is where we are, 2 weeks down the line they discover the cancer, it has spread and she is bed bound now and taking very little orally. i am having her home, everything is been set up as i type, i dont know how im gonna cope, im still in shock at the moment, i still really dont believe they have got it right.

Im sure you will give your mum all your love and attention, makes you wonder how they cant detect this illness sooner.  too many stories of discovery once its too late.  Have you got carers and support organised?

I know exactly how you feel. I lost my dad eight weeks ago only about six weeks after being told he had cancer. He didn't get a chance to start chemo as his bowel perforated and he had to have an emergency op. He passed away two weeks later. I am still in shock, so know how you are feeling right now.

My thoughts are with you. Take care. Christine xx

    Dear Pink Unicorn,

Your Mum is very lucky to have such a strong, caring, loving Daughter.

Its suprising how somebody like yourself with such Love and caring. Does cope. Nobody is saying its going to be easy for you and your Mum. But your Mum will be in good hands. All the best, and you take care of yourself as well.

My strength and Love are with you both.Sarsfield.xx

Reading your blog about your mum was like reliveing my mums illness all over again. My mum went into hospital with a chest infection, 5days later i was told she had stomach cancer and 48hours to live. I dont think you take it in really at the time, you cant beleave its true. My thoughts where the same as yours , told myself the doctor had got it wrong, the worse thing was i was a cancer nurse but i never saw this coming, there was no indecation or reason to think my mum had cancer. Sadley my mum passed away two days later, even after all these years i find it hard to come to terms with my loss. You are in a way so lucky to be able to look after your dear mum, its not going to be easy , but for the love of your mum you will cope some how. If you want to let your anger out and let rip your feelings when the going gets hard you are welcome to PM me anytime.

    My thoughts are with you.

    Hugs Lucylee. xxxxxx
