    The waiting....

Does anyone know why we have to wait 2 weeks to get results?

    CT scan

I would be glad to never have a barium drink again. A litre in an hour is pretty heavy going. What's more, I had to have a barium injection too and the radiographer couldn't get into the vein on the first arm so had to go to the other to get it to work. I am now the proud owner of twin bruises. How symmetrical.

That said, I was very happy to get the CT scan done today (14th). I did my assertive patient bit on Friday and called the X-ray department myself to get the appointment. Left to them...

    Enjoying family time

The weekend focused on a couple of family outings for the girls. The highlight was the Stony Riverside Fair. We were just approaching the first small roundabout when gorgeous daughter 1 spotted her first of many friends from school. It was all very sociable.

There aren't many things to go on at the fair, but there are enough for the number of people. And considering it is all free you really didn't have to wait long at all. Except for the facepaint where P waited very patiently in the queue...

    MRI scan

I was pleased to be phoned by the MRI Unit and the Colorectal nurse co-ordinating my care on the same morning that I received the confirmation (over the phone from consultant) that it is a malignant tumour.

I had the MRI scan yesterday two days later (10th). I think this was particularly for scanning the pelvic area to build up a detailed picture of the tumour and neighbouring tissue. For anyone who doesn't know, you have to lie still and it's very noisy. It felt a bit weird but was painless....

    Discovering the tumour

On 2 June I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy to investigate rectal bleeding. There had been an assumption that this was related to piles which first appeared during my pregnancy with gorgeous daughter 2 (a common pregnancy condition after all). In retrospect it is difficult to remember when the symptoms changed, but by the time I had the internal investigation I wondered if it might be something else.

But, I never expected the consultant to say that I had a growth and that I should prepare myself for...

    HI everyone...

the wound is a lot better now and today i can honestly see a light at the end of the tunnel. Lyphoedema is my next battle but as for the wound its close to healing. they think another 2 weeks and it should be dry and i can finally get into a lympho stocking...

so we are still doing the prontosan soak and the fucibet but now applying foam pads to the non healed areas. vaseline is protecting the good skin and jelonet is keeping it from drying up. then the tubinet and double tubigrip...

My third surgery in as many years.........

Hi everyone. Thought i would write a little update on me. Since Eastertime i have been feeling less well each day. I have been having my regular checks and full body scans but asked for an earlier scan than my next one due in August. It turns out that my pelvic sarcoma has returned and is huge :-( It is pressing on my main nerve that runs down my left leg which is giving me such pain. I have medication for this but it soon wears off, i have even developed a limp. Im trying not to let anything stop...
