    -Finding Out -

Hi all, my name is Linda i am 57 yrs old and live in Southort, Merseyside.

I'm not really one who writes Blogs etc but felt i would give it a try and see how it goes. If it gets a bit too heavy please let me know.

    My experience's upto date:

My first encounter with the hospital came at the end of March, my Doctor asked referred me to the hospital to be checked out because i developed badly swollen ankles and legs. I was kept in overnight and given a clot busting injection. I was also given...

  • I never expected that
    It's still early days

I realise looking at the blogs on this site, that I have a long journey ahead. Tomorrow I expect a call from the Colorectal nurse booking me in to see the consultant to discuss treatment in light of whatever is revealed by the MRI and CT scans. I just hope that the results get to the multidisciplinary meeting in time and we're not delayed by a week (these meetings are every Thursday morning in MK I gather). And then of course I hope to hear that the cancer hasn't spread and there is a clear...

  • Cervical Cancer, why me?
    4 weeks since...

Yes 4 weeks ago 20th May cancer became part of my life. The shock of being told was both comforting (knowing what was finally wrong with me) but yet devasatated to know i had a big big problem to deal with.

I had had my cancer found by chance. Was i lucky? i thought to myself or is this sheer bad luck, my emotions began to take over. I'd actually gone to the hospital for a problem with heavy periods and the agreement was the week before to do an hystersectomy, so they took a biopsy from my womb...

  • Not a good day
Worst day in a long while

So 2 days after my operation and i find out that there is yet another bloody tumor in my spine.... wonderful! Fed up of feeling like a complete outsider, I just want my old life back! People say you know who your friends are once you have cancer- mine wasnt the boy who was suposed to be my closest friend. Joined here to try and see if I could make some friends - all be it online- and what do you know, again im the outsider. Never felt so damn c**p in a long while - with fake users in the chatroom...

I didnt go to work today...

Although I did phone them and say I felt sick which was true in a way but it was anxiety sickness not really illness.  I watched The Mummy Diaries last night which I knew I would find upsetting but I felt it would be really useful for me in my situation.  Dan watched it with me which I didnt think he would and we found ourselves talking about lots of stuff, cancer stuff and dying stuff.  I have to be honest its the first time in ages we have talked about it and not because we dont talk about it, its...

    Radiotheraphy

Tom got the results of his endoscopy today and although the cancer in his lymph nodes and adrenal glands have not got any bigger the tumour in his oesophagus has grown bigger again since the chemo stopped in Jan.His oncology consultant has arranged for him to have 10 days of radiotheraphy and said that at first things will get worse before they get better. He says that 7 out of 10 see noticable improvement in their eating once things have settled down, just wondered if anyone else has had radiotheraphy...

port versus hickman line or picc

I have a port a cath which is so painful to use I can't go on with it. I refused a hickman line as I didn't want the tubes hanging out but I wonder if that would be better for me. I don't think I could do  PICC as I have to be put out for any procedues and I read that this is done awake. Any info greatly received. Thanks Jen XX

    Pain

Dad was in so much pain this morning he had already taken all of his meds which turns out is much more than i was lead to believe. We had to call the hospital and they wanted me to call an ambulance but he refused ... in the end i had to drive him, god every bump in the road went through him like a shockwave it was the worst 20 mins of my life seeing him in that much pain.
Any way the hospital have pretty much tripled his pain medication and have put out an urgent call for a pain management specialist...

    breathless on FEC

Hi there, does FEC make anyone breathless? I'm sure that can't be good! Nurses don't seem too concerned though.Baby has dodgy stomach and my son has chicken pox, so it's all fun and games here. Also hanging round the GPs surgery has given me a lovely cough.Am taking my 'emergency antibiotics', they worked like a miracle!

After FEC am having 12 weekly sessions of Taxol to be combined with Herceptin.Anyone had any experience of that?

    hugs and greetings to all!
