    Special treatment!

Well I do feel special! I was sitting watching morning TV when my phone rang.

    It was my surgeon!

I blogged a few days ago that I have been waiting for an appointment to see him after 4 weeks from leaving hospital , this came and went and I have had no appointment.

To cut a long story short, he rang to ask if I had received an appt, I said no that I was waiting for todays post to come and if I didn't get one then I was going to ring his secretary. He said that I should have been to see him at...

  • Fighting the enemy
    Near the end

Mum took a turn for the worse over the weekend, she can't even drink unassisted. Yesterday she was very agitated and broken blood spots started appearing all over her body. Blood test were taken and it was found her blood count is dangerously low because the cancer has attacked her bones the bone marrow is not making blood any more.

The Dr has advised us not to take her home as she is at risk of heamoraging which could be very distressing for my mum. The hospice is equiped to give her medication...

    Driving CLL

I’m glad to hear that you are behind the wheel again, perhaps life is a little like driving your car. When behind the wheel you are more in control of your destiny, as a passenger you are an observer, you have to rely on the skills of someone else’s driving. (Yeh you can still get side swiped or be distracted by a cat crossing the road) But it is you who must react to the situation at hand.

Maybe living with CLL is like driving a new car? This ones a...

    My Lovely Wife Julie 10

The last couple of weeks have been OK.  We have managed to get out fairly regularly, even out for a Chinese and an Indian meal.

Unfortunately Julie has had a pain in her back that has gradually been getting worse over the last 2 weeks, so bad that even increasing her pain meds by 50% does not give any real relief.  We both suspect that she has more cancer in the T6-T9 region of her spine - I suppose a scan will show exactly where.

We have an Apt with the Onc on Tuesday for a follow up on the Brain...

    farewell to my smile

The news was as miserable as I had feared.  They want to remove SIX teeth.  I could barely speak to the dentist when she told me.  Four of the teeth are wisdom teeth and two others form the side of my smile.  I made it past reception, found a quiet(ish) corner and cried.  Of course, I know the prospect of being alive is more important than having teeth but my smile makes  up a big part of who I am and it feels a particularly cruel side effect - the taking of a smile.
Options to replace the teeth seem...
