My husband was the old fashion sort with integrity & honour. For a man with such dignity the worst place to get skin cancer ( open sores spreading, weeping & bleeding) was in the groin. The sores followed the "knicker line" starting inside the top of his legs and he endured the embarrassment and pain of having them dressed every day. We were retired and together virtually all day every day & I was kept busy caring for him at home. After he died I think everything seemed surreal and of course there...
Well, we went to the hospital today for Pat to have the full dose of Octreotide. It was quite painful and the nurse offered to do two doses next time as the needle is smaller but Pat said he would rather get it over in one. He asked her if she could go to a different plumbers merchant and get a smaller drainpipe next time! He has a marvellous sense of humour.
We were allowed home straight away and I had to pull over so he could be violently sick at the roadside. Made a note to myself to take a bowl...
Finally the merry go round is slowing down. Saw my consultant this morning to discuss options following the failed biopsy last week when they couldn't take samples from the calcium deposits.
Option 1 - lumpectomy plus removal of the affected calcium area (then waiting for results on whether that was cancerous too - more stress while waiting plus radiotherapy treatment (I don't deal with stress and waiting very well). And knowing me I would still be worrying that every lump in the remaining breast...
Hi all,
I had a mole that turned into a blood-type blister last year. Two GPs looked at it (one of which specialises in skin conditions) and they were happy it wasn't anything sinister, just a collection of burst blood vessels under the skin.
Earlier this week I went for my second check up, my GP has noticed a change and is no longer convinced its nothing to worry about and has referred me to the Dermatology clinic at St. Bart’s.
I have a strong family unit in Derby, I live...
First of all can I please send all my love, hope, squidgy hugs and profuse apologies for not being around over the last couple of months. I hope that all my lovely friends are as well as can be expected and I have missed all of you and your stories and funny antics very much.
It has been a horrible couple of months for my brother, me and my family and I will confess that I just didn't have the energy to log in to MacLand as I couldn't seem to find the strength to give you all the love and support...
it's been a week since my radio therapy and Ms tiredness is paying a visit.....I've been sleeping probably about 12 hours of the day....
i don't mind because there's something about the power of sleep and healing....
But, at the moment I've still been getting up and dressed in the morning.....and if I can..I'm sure son number 2 can make the effort...
So I wake him at 6.30...have my brekkie, then disappear into my book ( the hobbit, my happy place.)..
8 o'clock...ex husband...
So, today I went to see my doctor for a check up. She has been the most amazing doctor I have ever known this past year, and thank goodness I have her. I have a very good relationship with my doctor, I can talk to her about anything; her door is always open to me, she is always on the other end of the phone if I need her, she's even round at the house every few days checking on my dad now. If she wasn't my doctor I'd be hunting her down on Facebook and befriending her.

My blog posts don't seem to publish only the title. I just want to say i am getting stronger after my Stem cell treatment that took place in Barts over christmas . Now eating well and on the way to recovery. Feel positive doing everyday things that make me feel part of the community again. Wish all the best.
On the bad days, in those times when we experience what some call 'the dark night of the soul,' it is hard to remember that we are not alone. It may feel as though that is so, but if we can reach out, however shakily, there is help and support.
My husband has had a very difficult week, not so much physically, more struggling with what's in his head. It really isn't that long ago he received his diagnosis, and after a period of denial he is slowly coming to try and face the reality of that...
