Referral to St. Bart's

Less than one minute read time.

Hi all,

I had a mole that turned into a blood-type blister last year. Two GPs looked at it (one of which specialises in skin conditions) and they were happy it wasn't anything sinister, just a collection of burst blood vessels under the skin.

Earlier this week I went for my second check up, my GP has noticed a change and is no longer convinced its nothing to worry about and has referred me to the Dermatology clinic at St. Bart’s.

I have a strong family unit in Derby, I live with my boyfriend who I love very much and have plenty of friends, however I just cannot bring myself to talk to anyone about what is going on in my head. I don't want them to feel the same levels of fear and pessimism that I am feeling, because it is the worst feeling in the world.

I am currently awaiting an appointment at St. Bart’s. Can anyone give advice on what will happen on the day / what the staff are like / anything I can do to prepare / good questions to ask?

I hope you get an answer soon. I had been told my lump was a Basel cell carcinoma but it turned out to be a follicular tumor. All I can say to you is once you have diagnosis of what it is consider mohn,s surgery i had it done 11th jan and had hoped it would be removed and have reconstruction same day but unfortunately they had to send a further sample away which ment the wound was left open for a week. I had the reconstruction done last wed. I am due to have stitches removed today yuk!! I don,t no where your blood blister mole is located but my tumor was top corner of nose right by my eye. Look up mohn,s surgery it is the best you can have for any kind of skin lesion as it preserves healthy tissue and preserves as much healthy tissue without taking more than is necessary and has a very very good cure rate . Mine was done at st helliers hospital carshalton with reconstruction done at st Anthony's cheam. I wish you all the best and would like to know how you get on. Sorry for any errors as I only have one eye with clear vision as I have drops in. Good luck. Gmb
