    Still Waiting
Apologies for not blogging for some time I have been busy focussing my efforts on getting better and this seems to be working albeit slowly. Blood test results received today were very positive allowing me to reduce one of the medications I take and I am now waiting for the next milestone which will be obtaining the results of my full body scan which I had last Thursday. My next consultation in on 22 April, but I am hoping for the results before then. Had a nice weekend away at parents which made...

  • The next battle
    SCT 2 day 5
So after leaving Pete for the weekend, I came back yesterday to find him in tears. He is so tired both physically and mentally. He's struggling to drink due to lack of thirst and afraid to go to the toilet as it burns like he's had a hot curry. The nurse bless her soul was so relieved to see me. She had been trying to encourage him but was failing to get him to drink more. His platelets were low so had a transfusion last night. But this has done little to help his fatigue or shortness of breath...

  • Salvage radiotherapy - another journey
Radiotherapy underway 9/33 to day 14/33

9/33 Monday 7 April: Weight 73.8 kilos. Fairly straightforward today although I didn’t get to have my weekly ‘chat’, which was to be done Tuesday. The usual routine but including a full scan. I was told to try and drink more every day outside of the routine as my bladder was a little smaller today than usual. Still, the R/T was completed, so I went straight home.

10/33 Tuesday 8 April: Weight 73.6 kilos. Today, I was seen by one of the advisers, to see how I was feeling. She...

  • The next battle
    SCT 2 day2
Pete had his cells back on Wednesday and all was pretty straight forward. He still eating well although mainly sleeping in between. I've been feeling really guilty all week as it his birthday tomorrow and I have to leave him in the morning to go home till Sunday night. Today however he had the best prezzie he could ask for when Dr told him his markers were 9. Anything below 10 is normal. Also after being restricted to his room last week as his neutrophils were at 0.3, a nurse said today there was...

  • BronB's Radiotherapy Journey - treatment to the Salivary Gland
My ramblings on preparing for Radiotherapy

I have been thinking more and more recently that I never really wrote about my preparation for Radiotherapy Treatment. It might be useful to other people reading the blog and so I am going to add it now.

In the run up to treatment starting .......

I tried to look after myself with a good diet and exercise. Having recently recovered from surgery I was keen to try and keep some level of fitness as I had been training to run 10km prior to surgery and finding out about cancer.

    I was (and still am...

  • BronB's Radiotherapy Journey - treatment to the Salivary Gland
    Session 23 - 7 remaining

Good news today - my double vision (and MS relapse and nothing to do with RT) seems to have corrected itself. I have left the prisms on my specs and started wearing my old pair so I can ensure the correction is a permanent feature, because often my MS does this and then slips again before correcting.

In terms of my treatment .... I am trying to sleep after treatment each day and the fatigue has been a little better these past two days. Due to my concerns about constipation, I haven't re-introduced...

  • Getting my head around it
    Plateau

Things have not changed significantly in the past month, hence the title.

I can walk reasonably far but I still get tired.  My legs still do not feel as though they are fully under my control and they are weaker than they used to be. The mets are still there in my pelvis but are quiet at the moment as my PSA had fallen to 3 at the last count.  I know it should be lower on treatment.  I gave up ibuprofen completely more than 2 weeks ago but I still have to take paracetamol to settle for the night.  My...

    mesothelioma cancer

    HI fellow sufferers.

i am a first timer so please be gentle with me.

Back in 2011 having been diagnosed with a mesothelioma cancer on my chest, I had 3 ribs removed and replaced with titanium (aren't i lucky ) Along with that a titanium chest plate was fitted to make me even more valuable.

I was told that having thrown it all away that was that and to get on with life. (as if )

But after visiting my consultant recently i was told that I was doing quite well as these things often return.

  • High-Grade Dyskaryosis
    Screening Results

Following my second routine smear test at the end of March, I received my results in the first week of April which confirmed that I have high-grade dyskaryosis.  An appointment has been made for in 4-weeks time at which point I will have a Colposcopy.

Even though the letter from the trust was informative and detailed, including leaflets on colposcopy, treatment and what to expect, I do feel very nervous and worried about the procedure and future results.

I hope that the next few weeks pass quickly...
