    071217 - Upcoming Gastrectomy

Well, I've negotiated my way through 4 sessions of FLOT chemo. Next hurdle coming up is "the biggie"!  In four hours I'll be making my way to hospital and will undergo a gastrectomy tomorrow. Whilst I'm quite apprehensive about the surgery the worst moment was yesterday when I wrote a letter to my daughter incase the worst should happen! I'm trying to remain positive but it's the old adage "Prepare for the worst and hope for the best".

    This week we have...

  • Bowel cancer all clear
    All done

Hi all, well after a year and a half of treatment and operation i had my ct and mri scans. Saw my surgeon last week and no sign of cancer.will be having scans every 3 months which is the norm i think. I haven't been back to work yet due to me still having pain in my bowel. I had problems after the op with an infection and had to go to theatre 5 times to drain fluid from my bowel. I'm still having problems with mucus building up in my bowel and this causes pain. It seems that if I'm stood up for any...

Losing a loved one at Christmas

My husband has just lost his Sister, at just 36. She leaves behind 3 young boys, a mother, father and 2 brothers. The funeral is next week and everyone else is getting in to the festive spirit, but all I am thinking about is how my friend and my sister in law is not here anymore. I am giving as much support as I can for my husband and his family. It is very difficult though as she was fighting for so long and in her final days the cancer really took over her body which was so very hard to see. I...

Part Three - Surviving the Journey :)

I had 6 cycles of Chemotherapy (R-EPOCH) totalling 750+ hrs, 45 Radiotherapy Sessions, 2 Allo SCTs, Total Body Irradiation and ATG (anti-thymocyte globulin) and lots a various Chemo conditioning - Issues were inevitable. My main SCT Consultant likened the physical process of Allo SCT treatment as going through a boxing match and running a marathon every day I was in hospital and I had not done any training for it and I did it twice.

Fatigue was a long lasting problem. 2 years post my second Allo...

    Surgery 7 December

Getting worried now.  Glad that the lump will be removed but worried about treatment plan - waiting another 2 weeks will be hell.

I will be in hospital all day and my surgery is in the afternoon.  They are doing a sentinel node biopsy on the same day.  I am taking an overnight bag just in case.

  • My name is Paul, and I had Testicular Cancer.
    My story so far...

My name is Paul, and on Friday October 28th 2016 I was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer.

The Sunday before, I noticed my left testicle was enlarged.  Instead of going away to work on the Monday, I stayed at home and got an appointment with my GP.  “If I were a betting man, I’d say it isn’t, but lets two week referral and get it checked”. Come Thursday that, I was visiting Urology at the hospital.”If I were a betting man, I’d say it isn’t.  Let’s get a non-urgent scan arranged and I’ll see you...

  • Cancer Schmancer
    Cancer, Schmancer

The title came from a friend of mine who received her first cancer diagnosis around 2003. She described tying, untying, retying her boot as her doctor used a bunch of words that didn't make sense to her at the time, she was in so much shock. How clinical it had all been while she obsessively just tied, untied, retied her boot over and over again. I kind of wish I'd been there to smack her doctor upside the head. In any event, she called three of her best friends, who got her so stoned on pot to...

    MDT Meeting Result

They believe the primary is the kidney they want one more MDT meeting next Tuesday to decide on camera down or needle in, so they can confirm either chemo or surgery. I think they wanted to meet me also to see how I am feeling in myself, I have caught this early (I think anyway), so they were happy to see how well I look and by the end of the meeting how tough I am. I know I have a war on my hands, but I was honestly expecting them to say there is nothing they can do, Last week I was prepared to...

  • Down but not beaten, want to maximise fitness recovery.
    Preparing for op next week.

Went to gym today, nearly 6 weeks since lymph node biopsy, been very careful not to overdo it. been working out gently not using weights on affected  arm for last two weeks. Normal exercises but just squeezing my fist. Bicep curls, on Swiss ball bracing my core.  Used to bench press 50 kilos but hey1 Can live without doing that anymore. Find it difficult that i can't row on the machine, used to burn 1000+ calories a day. Gaining weight haven't got to grips with that yet. Got major surgery next week...

    That Lump I Found

I was awake as usual at 3.30am on 12 October.  I went to the bathroom and noticed my nipples looked different, it was cold and the right one was rigid but the left looked flat.  I regularly do checks so I felt around my breast and found a hard little lump just to the left of my nipple.  Oh my god I just knew something was wrong.  I went straight to my smartphone app and found an appointment with my doctor at 8am.  I was examined and a referral was sent to the hospital.  It was just unreal, I had...
