    Time waits for no one

Hi all, I’m going to say sorry for writing so much, but it does say get it off your chest – or similar.

I’ve said somewhere on here that we have been together over 45 years, married for 43 years 7 months, when she lost the fight with cancer. That was 31st Dec, or just 10 weeks ago. For the last 22 years we worked together as a team, supplying & fitting camper parts. (we ordered a new van early in Sep, to covert for ourselves, before she was diagnosed, so we could go when we...

"hear my words that I might teach you"

I started this blog on my Mum's birthday so today being Mother's Day seems the perfect time to update. I could never have known just how significant that title would become.

Some of you have been with me along the bumpy road for which you know I am eternally grateful. Although I no longer feel the need to be here, I will pop in from time to time to see how you are doing or if indeed my experience can be of help to anyone else. Might have to change the user name though as hubby...

    March 7th Another follow-up

Churchill Hospital clinic done and home again.  Registrar took my history and examined me for lumps in neck, groin and abdomen = none found.  I did see the great man himself as he walked past in the corridor but he didn't run the session himself.

Follow-ups will be split between them and Stoke Mandeville Plastics clinic so I’ll be seen every 3 months and they will each have a six-monthly review.

I’m not suitable for the only current drug trail which requires lymph nodes to have been...

    Back to Ward 43

Just  a quick update for today, not much more to update really. Mum's been moved back to Ward 43 from Step down which means she's on a "normal" neuro ward again, back where she started. That's a real result. We can expect her to be in for perhaps a couple of weeks, but a much faster than expected return, so fantastic news.

One thing I'm not sure if I made a note of before, but made me laugh today when I was recounting it to our friend Geoff.

    On the Friday before surgery...

    PET scan - the wait!

So I had my PET Scan 2 days ago on my 45th birthday. I can't deny it was the worst birthday I've ever had plus I've got a cold. I'm thoroughly miserable it has to be said.

I have read into every detail that has happened subsequently and can only think the worst. Having had the scan I was told to get dressed and then 'we'd have a look at the photos'. I then came out and was immediately told I could go - I said 'and the results?'  - 'they will go to you doctor' accompanied...

    Getting tetchy!

I came back home on Tuesday evening after seeing mum was settled on the ward. Andy was leaving for Canada on Wednesday morning so I wanted to see him.

We opened a bottle of champagne to celebrate the success of the surgery and had a takeaway!

Took Andy to the train station on Wednesday morning and felt very emotional. I think that the tiredness is really catching up with me now. I went home and spent the day sorting the office out - lots of backlog.

Phoned the hospital and was told she was in...

    Post op visit

Went back to the hospital on Tuesday 5th March for afternoon visiting. Thankfully, the Critical Care ward has afternoon visiting hours during the week, unlike the neuro ward she was on before, so we can get in to see her.

She was much brighter, giving the nurses hell - where's afternoon tea?? She did take one of them to one side though to tell her how safe and comfortable she felt and how grateful she was. All the canulas have been removed except one, so she looks less like a pin cushion now and...

    The story so far....

Friday 15 Feb 2013, I got the call that I most dread: my brother telling me my mum had been taken into hospital and a scan showed a lump on her brain.

Friday 22 Feb 2013, the next dreaded call: scans showed that the lump was a tumour, probably malignant, but not sure what level. Its been caught early and they will operate to remove it, analyse it and then agree the best coruse of treatment: radiotherapy, chemo, etc....surgery scheduled for Wed 27 Feb.

    Wednesday 27 Feb 2013: d-day! Waited and...

    Disastrous 2012

I was really glad when 2012 ended. It was a proper disastrous 12 months. It began with me making a painful decision of filing for a divorce after 7 years of unsuccessfully trying to work on my marriage. My husband was not interested in any form of therapy and was becoming increasingly aggressive which was truly bad for the kids. So, I finally said 'enough is enough' - he promised he'd make the divorce process hell..... I was worried, but little did I know that a few months later that would be one...
