Just a bit of background - I found a lump in my left breast (after several weeks of intermittent pain) and saw my doctor on the 11th August , referred by her to the local (Sheffield) breast clinic with an appointment on the 15th August. After a consultation and mammogram , off to the radiologist who also had a very good look around in my underarm area- he took two core biopsies (which hurt!) and at that point I was expecting the news that it was suspicious - which when I saw the consultant half...
I finally had the results of my scan on my liver. The tumour has shrunk but is only deemed to be borderline for surgery. Therefore they have recommended a further three months of chemo.
I was initially very disappointed as the only way I will be ‘cured’ is with surgery to both my rectum and liver. But I have to go with the experts in this. The good news is that the chemo has been doing its job.
I went to see my oncologist at my local hospital yesterday to discuss the further chemo. She...
Ok, so 4 days after receiving the news "theres traces of cancer in the biopsy"... how am I feeling?
Well its all happened so fast, referred to consultant after problems eating and swallowing and some wheezing, met consultant on Weds 24th Aug, op on 2nd Sept.
Follow up apt Mon 12th Sept. That's when I heard the news.
So, quickly following on are appts for an MRI scan, CT scan and an apt to see another consultant next week. Its happening very fast, is that a good or bad sign?
MRI scan...
so I have been awake since 2.15 my head is going round at 100mph . I don't want to be starting this journey as I just don't know how it will end .
Having only told my oldest child about the breast cancer yesterday as she was on holiday and came home yesterday .
The poo poo has hit the fan for me this morning I keep telling myself to be calm its all going to be ok but I am just worried they are going to find more then they expected once I am on the operating table .
This is the 4th surgery (lumpectomy, lymph nodes, portacath insertion) and this was the first one done under local anaesthetic and for me, the worst out of all of them I would say.
Hallucinations, water boarding and class a drugs
Almost a week since surgery and although there has been huge progress, the brutality of this disease has become abundantly clear ( despite this version being one of the better cancers to get. ( based on very limited research on my behalf relating to death likelihood… So basically fact! ). You simply can’t get through it without equally brutal treatment. As a close friend has since put though, “it would have been embarrassing if it...
Right......mum has been feeling crap, putting it bluntly, for a week or so now whilst on course of antibiotics and antivirals. Hopefully those side effects will ease off now. However, latest Haematology appointment wasn't great either. Haemoglobin levels have decreased, which was expected, but also platelets have taken a nose dive since last appointment (17/8/16) which up until now have remained stable. Chemo is now not considered a viable option either. Next blood transfusion booked for Wednesday...
I had my CT scan today before commencing radiotherapy next week.
The calls are becoming more frequent. It's each day as it comes.
For months it's been a battle of quality time vs maintaining normality. No regrets vs no worries.
I had to believe I would know when the balance shifted.
"The doctor says it could be weeks," mum told me. The words I'd been dreading since my step dad was diagnosed with mesothelioma in April. Call it common sense or call it blind panic, "I'm coming home," I told her. The balance has shifted, life doesn't have a rewind....
