  • Daughter to a lymphoma Mum
Wednesday..........not as full of woe as you are lead to believe!

Well today brings, as expected, mixed news.............

Mum has had her results and things are not as bad as could be which is a big yeah! The cancer has infiltrated her bone marrow and she is also suffering from very dry skin, has had a lump develop and overly active sinuses (i.e. she’s a snot monster in our words, having had a cold since November and it is showing no signs of shifting). They have said that they want to treat the platelet issue rather than the cancer, which is still pretty load...

  • Roland Ratso - The aftermath
Tom-ass gets me in trouble with Irene

Well dear reader, you will remembers well the antics of Roland Ratso, the not so little bleeder that crawled up my derriere and took so much effort to get removed, leaving me with a permanent stoma called Tom-ass. I have been quiet for some time becaue I haven't really had much to report but last week Tom-ass excelled himself. Lying in bed, "I felt a smell" and gingerely extricating myself from the aforementioned bed I  made my way to the bathroom, carefully ensuring that the contents...

If You Can Spare Any Prayers And Hopes Please Send Them This Way

March 2006 My 34 year old Brother was diagnosied with Bowel Cancer (the day my Daughter was born). He had part of his bowel removed and had a bag for the best part of a year. He recovered well after the treatments and the op he had. In Febuary 2008 my brother got the bad news that he now had lung cancer (i was 5 months pregnant at the time). Again he had an op to remove part of his lung and again he had treatment. He had his sperm frozen as doctors told him that he would not be able to have children...

  • Just have to get it all out really.
    Breaking down.
So today I found out that my aunt (who genuinely is like a second mum to me) was told that there's nothing that the hospital can do for her. On Thursday she was diagnosed with brain cancer, for at least 4 months everyone had noticed a massive change in her, mentally and physically. My uncle had taken her to doctors who told her to go to hospital for various tests over those 4 months, but as no answers were found as to why she was changing, my uncle eventually forced the hospital to admit her to find...

  • Memories Of My Mum
How did I come to be here?

My Mum first had breast cancer when I was 6 months old, she had a mastectomy and i can remember from an early age that she was just normal. Then in 2006 she was diagnosed with breast cancer on the other side. I was pregnant with my daughter at the time. Over the course of the next few years she had lumps removed, lymph nodes removed and finally a seceod mastectomy which she had wanted all along really "It will even me up" she use to joke.

Then at the start of 2010 she got a chesty cough...

  • Our Journey from that August day..
    August 2011 to now...

Life was ticking along nicely until early August when Dad told me he was off to hospital to have a camera look down his throat as for sometime he had been experiencing difficulties with swallowing and eating. He went along to his appointment knowing what to expect as he had this procedure done some years ago. I got a phone call from him later that day , which was to change everything for ever. Dad explained in a very calm way that they were unable to complete the procedure and have a good look with...

  • Post Mastectomy, Treatment Blues
    Post Mastectomy Treatment Blues

I should be feeling better now, but have a hit a wall. I think the physical and emotional effort to get through the treatment has left me exhausted. I suppose I'll find a way, but my nails/ eyebrows/eyelashes are falling out. I wasn't expecting this at this late stage. My red hair has been replaced by black stubble. My prosthesis keeps sliding over and peeps out of my bra. My eyes are itching and watering. My private parts are itching and sore and to top the lot I fell downstairs and broke my toe...

  • Daughter to a lymphoma Mum
    Tick-tock.........impatient countdown

Well we are on countdown to Wednesday. Mum will get her test results and treatment plan. It seems like the longest time until then I am a wreck. I dread to think how she is feeling about it. She never really lets on exactly what is going on in her head and I can’t blame her for that. I do know that she feels out of control and her life is in the hands of others, which for my Mum the ex-nurse control freak is not an easy thing.

Anyway I just feel sick to my stomach and I lurch from angry...

  • I've always been the strong one!
    It's Not Over!

My dad has always had a cheeky, naughty twinkle in his eyes and they sparkle. He just looked at me and said "i'm paying, now go and sit down and shut up!" Typical dad words i suppose, but in his eyes was a sadness and such sorrow that i will never forget seeing.....and that sparkle and naughty twinkle was nowhere to be seen or noticed. In that instant i felt myself well up and tears came to my eyes and i begged my dad to sit down and let us sort out the bill. Still he refused and told me to go to...

  • I've always been the strong one!
    We're Still Fighting!

At the next 6 month scan the news wasn't so great. The cancer has grown again in his lungs and has now spread to his Central Lymph Nodes as well. I attended my dad's consultant appointment with him as there were a lot of questions i wanted to ask. He said i could go with him as i might pick up on something that he might miss.

We met the dr and a lovely lady who is his consultant support and they answered all our questions honestly and openly. It happens now that my dad has to have two forms...
