It seems to have gone so quickly, tomorrow I start my tri-cycle, the 3rd cycle of my BEP chemo. This is hopefully the last one, and so a deep breath, endure the beeping machine, the bi-hourly trips to the loo, and the ignominies of an inpatient's life, and I'll be close to the finishing line. I'm all stocked up with tech gadgets, sweets, drinks and tricks to endure the inpatient spell. After that its just 2 day-patient chemo visits and that'll be the last toxic chemical to enter my body....
I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the end of November 2011 and underwent surgery (lumpectomy) in early December 2011. Unfortunately the results of my surgery showed that the disease was progressing rapidly and also that one of the lymph nodes removed at the time for biopsy was also cancerous. This now means that I shall require an 18-week course of chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy.
I heard today that my first chemo will be on Tuesday 7th February 2012 and I am understandably...
saw Dr Hogg at Burnley yesterday.....the lung biopsy showed that it is my breast cancer that has spread..
starting chemo on Friday...they are tablets called..capecitabine and vinorelbine...I haven't had this type of chemo...and i may not lose my hair..so that will be nice...
what won't be nice...I've had the lung drain in a few weeks now and the stitches are out...it's comfy and easy to drain....may now have to be removed, something about it being seen as a 'foreign body' and getting infection...
Everyone needs 5 mins calm in the day, so....
Find a warm quiet place to sit in, an upright chair (with extra cushions nearby) and sit down. Sit as upright as you can (use the cushions for your back if needed). Feet on floor. Shut eyes. Breathe. (Always a good idea).
Imagine sitting in the sun on a warm tropical beach. Wriggle your toes in the sand. Breathe In........Breathe Out. Focus your attention on your breathing. As you breathe out, let go of any tensions in your neck & shoulders. Breathe...
M started his radiotherapy yesterday. Shared the waiting room with a couple where the male half had the same type of tumour and surgery as M. Difference is, he had seen a competent doctor in the beginning so his diagnosis and treatment were fast and his chances are good. Really chatty people till I told them M's condition is terminal. Sudden lull in the conversation then.
Having people who are terminal and those with a good prognosis being treated together feels a bit like carrying out abortions...
Hello lovely people.
The strangest thing happened to me this morning.
I woke up at 9am (having not gone to bed until 3am) and me and the pooch were snuggling into the duvet debating as to whether or not we should stay there for another hour or get ourselves up and at the day. I just laid there stroking Rocky for a while and closed my eyes. I wasn't asleep because I was stroking Rocky all the time. For a fleeting moment an image came into my head as clear as bright sunlight. My Dad was sitting...
I've been to see a gastroentorologist today. I liked him last time I saw this time not so much, he's told me I need a camera down my throat. Now after hearing horror stories, I dont particularly want it done at my local hospital.
They've also referred me to Family History Illnesses Clinic, because with such a strong family history of Bowel Cancer, there's even talk of genetic testing. Now I've thought about this in the past and the answer for me then was no. Now i'm considering it. Does...

Well, it's Monday morning and Pat has been quite good for the past 3 days. He still gets a bit tired and has to contend with the problems of his Parkinsons and Diabetes, but he has not been sick and has been able to go out on his own on his scooter. It is now a week since his last Octreotide injection and things are looking promising.
