when i was diagnosed with cancer in oct 2010 like everyone else i was just going to work leading a normal life and seeing my friends every so often and then the devastation set in!!!!
the disbelieving and the feeling of total despair and why me syndrome then i shook myself off and thought oh no bloody way is this bloody thing getting to me so overnight i changed from being a snivelling mess who couldnt look at my kids without crying to where i am today positive and taking each day as it arrives...
DH has now had radio and chemo therapy (6 weeks) and we are now waiting to see if the tumour has shrunk.
But I hate waiting.
I have been ok with it this time but I can feel myself sinking and getting generally fed up with everything.
I am also feeling lonely as people have lives to get on with and don't want to here my moaning.
Not much point really, just need to get things out!
Mum had a visit from the pallative care nurse who was asking where she would like to be when her time comes to die.... it all seems to have become real. Iv'e not slept so god knows how mum is feeling. :o(
Can anyone tell me how they coped?
im new to this but weirly find this quite helpful just randomly typing not knowing whether anyone will read or not.
I was diagnosed with a soft tissue sarcoma on new years eve 2010. (i know happy new year). Luckily this tumor was removed within a week of being diagnosed by a wonderful Dr in Manchester. The tumor was in the top part of my leg so not just removed but also had my hamstring reconstructed.
I am now about to embark on radiotherapy treatment at th Christie hospital.
I think i have stayed...
Well, I had my check-up at hospital on Monday. This is usually a quick chat, possibly urine test results (hormone levels) and (sometimes, but rarely) blood pressure. For those of you that know me and my situation, my son and I usually see the Professor together.
Arrived at hospital at 5pm for 5.15 and 5.30 appts (son doesn't like taking time off work). BIG mistake. Like flights, you're better off getting early one, as no time for a backlog to build up. Waiting room was mobbed. Should have...

Strange day. Feeling very low and bleak. Quiet and withdrawn too, which is unlike me. I had a real wobble last night re: making decisions about treatment. Today, my partner has contacted my consultant by e-mail on my behalf with all the questions that are going through my head. My consultant has taken the time to reply which is really nice of him, and has helped slightly. Pressure of having to make a quick decision. I seem to be very 'snappy' and intolerant at the moment - of both myself and others...
Its Friday 11th February 2011. Seeing consultant about results of CT scan. Apprehensive...
Bad news, secondary cancer of the lung and probably primary in bowel. Shocked, was not in my life plan.
Difficult to take in. Need to tell family, called wife but not able to tell her, we both break down.
Manage to drive home and tell everyone the news. Not an easy afternoon.
Not able to sleep.
Wishing for prayers or luck or thoughts... whatever you believe. Signed off some papers to release my pathology slides from May to be sent for further testing... almost felt like signing for a house. These tests will determine wether my cancer cells over express themselves causing them to mutate. It will be about a week before we find out the results and the results will determine which trial we qualify for. if this is the road we go down I'll be spending 2 days in the first day of March in detroit...
Been a good 12 months or so. Celebrated my first year of being back full time at work - after being out for all of '09 - last week. Been charging around flat out and am loving it.
Had to request to pull ahead my latest check up at Papworth due to some nagging discomfort over Christmas though ... and suffice to say the lurgy is no longer lurking in the shadows. Not the main nasty this time - but his little friend is up and running - so looks like it is play time again ... Just a little poke in...
