    Now feel so guilty

I have just shouted at my daughter and now I feel so guilty......

My mum has terminal ovarian cancer. She is not strong enough for any more chemo, and we have been told that how she is now may be as good as she gets.  Dad is her primary carer, but at 73 is finding it very difficult to cope both emotionally and physically.  They have been married 48 years and she is his sole mate.

Her meds have been upped twice in two days and even now she is still having pain.

Our main problem is that mum has never...

Coping with the loss before its even happened... My Beautiful Grandma

Ive got to a point in my life when yes, I accept death and accept that my elders are going to die, but in my head i had this rosy picture that my Grandma at her ripe old age would just fall asleep when it was time, not suffer or feel any pain, but as always it seems that my heads in the clouds and there never is a right time or a right way to go.

My grandma is a inspiration to me, she has had a humble up bringing, lived and worked hard throughout the war, and my: my she has got loads of tales to...

    Family matters

Hey everyone...I havent blogged for a while but not much has been happening with me so I havent really got alot to write about.  Treatment going well and I'm feeling well so thats great!! I am blogging about an issue which has been playing on my mind for a while.  Its not directly to do with my cancer although its a factor, if I wasnt ill then it probably wouldnt be something we would be considering.  But seeing as I am never going to get better I need to make sure things stay as they are.

    When...

    a really horrible day

Hi, I don't know where i am going with this but i guess i just need to 'type it out'

I have had a really tough day today.

Mum and I met with the lady from the fund-raising fund for the leukaemia  ward that dad was treated on throughout his cancer journey. We raised £1095 for them from donations at dads funeral. It was a fantastic amount and the woman (pauline) was delighted, the money goes straight back into the ward not into the hospital funds.

They also have a charity shop for the...

    The day hospice

Claudette dressed herself and got ready to go the the hospice for the day, but was too tired to walk to the van which took her, and was pushed into the van and the wheelchair anchored down. This gave me a chance to go out and do some shopping. She returned at 3.30, absolutely exhausted, she said she had done too much, but had really enjoyed it. We'll have to think about her spending a shorter time next week. They also took care of the sores.

She slightly recovered later in the day but had to...

  • I never expected that
    Fantastic fund-raising!

A huge thank you to everyone who attended our coffee morning (and afternoon) on Friday - either at Mum and Dad's house in Edinburgh, or here in sunny Stony - and made a donation to Macmillan as part of the World's Biggest Coffee morning. And thanks to SB for co-hosting with me -would have struggled on my own!

I have today made the on-line donation of £300 - from morning, afternoon, selling a few leftover cakes at Meeting on Sunday, and adding in the cheque from Holiday School this summer...

    The councilling starts

I had my first councilling session yesterday. I did not know what to expect whether we would go through the whole story or what. It was a bit of an assessment visit, she mainly asked me about what I hoped to get from it and a few details of my support network. She was sure that councilling was a good idea and that we should start on  weekly basis. I didn't feel that I gained anything from it but I guess that was not the point of the first visit.

I know they can't work miricles, they can't put...

    Update so far

I tried to come on yesterday to update, but I just couldn't manage it.

As you know, I was refused funding by my local PCT earlier this year for CHT-25 treatment down at the Royal Free in London.

People rallied round and raised enough money to send me at the end of June.

I had a scan after 4 weeks which showed great signs - neck was no longer active, under arm shrank by 2cm, chest mass shrank by half.

I had a scan last week (about 13 weeks post treatment), which unfortunately shows that...
