  • Oh boy do I need some advice!!!!!!
    Help and advice please!

My husband has advanced sarcoma cancer.  He is managing to work still, but is obviously finding that more and more difficult, but it is to his credit that he still carries on as though things were normal.

Last week he started new chemo No. 5, as the previous four had not helped stop the growth or spread of the tumour in his abdomen.

My difficulty is this:  whenever he has symptoms which could be attributed to the cancer, he goes into denial, and through his own diagnoses decides it is something entirely...

    Bad bad night...

Bad night last night. We went round to see Mum & Dad...Dad looks so ill.
I find it sooo hard...it feels like only yesterday he was his normal self, quite
a lot of energy, laughing & joking. Now he just seems so poorly...huddled up
on the sofa with a blanket...quiet...worried...scared. My poor Dad :( My heart
breaks everytime I look at him & I know it is going to get worse...

So last night we took round my Dad's fortisip drinks that I had picked up for
him. I was stood in the lounge...

all done and enjoying the trippy drugs!

    V quick update from hospital.

All went well, although there was never a chance I would go home tonight.  The one doctor who said that may be possible must not have done to many of these type of operations!

No results for a while yet, but thanks for the support from so many people. I'll go back to watching the faries dancing behind my eyelids now.  Got to love a nice opiate you can self medicate with. :)

    MRI DAY
Almost pleasant visit to hospital this morning. Lovely radiologist called David went out of his way to put me at ease (even though I'm a veteran at this lark). Rewarded myself with coffee & cake in one of the hospital cafes, I felt I deserved it. Had a delivery of coal & a huge pile of logs this afternoon so we'll stay nice & snug- a lovely young man called Will runs a fuel delivery business from a boat, it makes my life easier having it delivered right to my door. Actually he stacks it on the roof...

    Emotional weekend...

Wow...what a weekend...rollercoaster of emotions like never before. On Friday night Marc & I told Dad that we were going to get married. He has been a bit down and Mum was really worried about him...well telling him our news completely lit up his face...the grin he gave me is something I will never ever forget...he got the sparkle back in his eyes and was just sooo chuffed.

He did say "You're not just doing this because you think I'm on my way out are you?" Of course we made sure...

    Why all these operations?

The previous post covers the lymph system, but I think I am getting closer to understanding why they keep wanting to remove parts of me. When it still feels like this is a pretty small tumor.

    Micrometastases

Micrometastases are areas of cancer spread (metastases) that are too small to see. If there are individual cells, or even small areas of growing cells elsewhere in the body, no scan is detailed enough to show them.

For a few types of cancer, blood tests can detect certain proteins released...

What does the Lymphatic system do? And how does it spread cancer?

I've never really understood the lymphatic system. I know it exists, and I've vaguely tried to find out in the past, but it never really understood. However, as I about to lose part of it, I have made myself learn about it. Maybe most people know... but anyway, here is what I found out.

    The Lymphatic System:

The lymph systems includes a number of different thing that we all know about. Bone Marrow, spleen, various glands and the lymphatic vessels. They are like blood vessels, but apparently...

    Here we go again!
MRI tomorrow to get a better look at 2 new lesions in my liver. I had successful RFA on liver lesion in Aug last year, keeping fingers crossed it will be possible again. This is the 5th time, adrenocortical cancer is relentless. I'm beginning to feel terribly alone. Has anyone out there any idea how I'm supposed to deal with this?

    Radial scar removed
The radial scar has been removed, replaced by a 10cm horizontal scar. It was such a relief to get the surgery over with, Wednesday 23rd January was a very long day, hospital running late so I did not get into theatre until 5.30 which was the time they were expecting to discharge me. The Consultant said to me, don't worry you will have your operation today, I was relieved to hear this as I'd had a wire put in at 10 that morning. The operation took about an hour, the general anaethetic was fine...
