  • For The Love Of Gordy - A Sister's Story
Safely Home, Hunky Doc, Lunch, Shopping and Proving the Pessimists Wrong!

Gordy I am pleased to report arrived home at midnight, knackered but happy after having spent a good weekend with Dougy and their workmates.

I went to see the gorgeous Dr Elliott this morning as he is the only GP in our surgery who is able to give cortisone injections and I finally decided that my freezing (and almost frozen) shoulder was not going to get better on its own.  He duly obliged and I am happy to report that it is working, to the extent that Mumsy said she could almost see the pain draining...

    I hate mucus.....!!!

When my kids were small, smelly nappies and baby sick never bothered me....

There was only one thing that made me cringe.....runny noses.....you know the ones I mean so I won't go into detail....!!

I had a call from hospital today...I have an appointment to go in next week when they are going to remove a sample of fluid from my lung...I didn't dare ask which route they would be taking to do this..

I only hope that this will help to relieve my problem with the stuff and they can drain a...

    Things are moving at last.

    Background

My husband Pat is 66 and has Parkinson's Disease, Type 11 Diabetes, Congestive Cardiac  failure and has had one heart attack and also has benign Asbestosis in his lungs and a large Hiatus Hernia.

For the past year he has had regular vomiting and other odd symptoms. It was difficult to know the cause as symptoms overlapped due to his complex situation. This culminated in several hospital admissions and many different clinic appointments with a variety of specialists. It  finally ended...

    cracks in family are massive

As I have previously said, things are very difficult with my Family
I live alone in near Leeds and they are in up North.
I deliberately moved away to go to Uni as I was already sure I needed distance between us, even at the tender age of 18.
This whole illness thing has possibly exagerated the cracks and tensions between us.
Only told my Sister in the beginning and she was initially quite supportive but then just seemed to forget and we had very little contact, not even the odd text.
    Told my Folks when...

  • Just another bog standard blog, but it's my story.
First clinic visit and a very ironic evening.

Monday 12th Sept 2011.....I trot off quite happily to the chest clinic and find it is in a new part of the hospital, very smart and welcoming and in the waiting room is the biggest Macmillan display I have ever seen, no problem the clinic is shared by numerous doctors according to the written sign on the wall.    I was soon called by a nurse for weighing ,ECG, blood tests and the inevitable breathing test   no xray because I had already had one on Thursday.    So ,finally the Doctor who asked " Do you know...

  • A week in the lives of Shaz & Dave
Blimey .....2 weeks since my last post...doom and gloom gone x

Blimey that last post was a bit heavy, didnt realise how down I had got. Im better now :)

A lot has gone on over the past two weeks and I wont bore you with the down bits.

We do have laughter in our lives and that is what I am going to share with you now.

Negative followed by a Positive is a good place to start I think.......

For those that dont know, Dave had the floor of his mouth removed and rebuilt, this has left him with few taste buds, limited tongue movement, scar tissue (cut from left...

    Round 3 - anticipating Christmas

Here I am about to start round 3 and am in the middle of the second period from hell (when does the menopause start?!) My fear is that my red blood count will be down and my chemo postponed and I have Christmas all planned out!

The other problem is the other half. He's finding all this active parenting is exhausting and is getting very angry at the lack of sympathy for him! Its exhausting and if it wasn't for school and a semblance of order I don't know what I'd do. Its hard to tell who is triple...

  • Part 7--The Radiation Department...
    The Radiation Department...

Relieved that 'down below' one compartment was empty and the other still full as  required after a short 20 minute journey to my local hospital, I presented myself at the appointed time at the Radiology department.

After a very brief wait I was collected by one of the nurses who took lengths to make sure that I knew everything about not only today's procedures but also what was going to follow over the next couple of months.

It was then time to lie on the bed of the C.T. Scanner...

  • Why?
    Why?

I can't get my head around this breast cancer journey at all.  Two stage 3 tumours, one lumpectomy, 6 sessions of chemotherapy and 1 month of radiotherapy later and I still don't understand.

Why did I get it in the first place?  Why did I survive (or did I?  Is it only pretending and it's going to come back?).  Why do I feel guilty for having it and for causing so much upset to so many people who love me.

I've cried practically non-stop all weekend.  I have a sore head because of the...
