  • The beginning of a hellish journey....

See this journey isn't my personal battle with cancer, this is my personal battle with my granddad's cancer. My granddad being my best friend, my hero and above all my rock - through the bad times and the good he has been there for me, and I am trying to be there for him in his time of need.

My Granddad is a very healthy soon-to-be 80 year old with no previous health problems (the last time he was in hospital was 60 years ago to have his appenix removed when he was in the RAF). He takes...

    APRIL 2011

I am called in to have my lump removed and some lymph nodes, thank God it turns out that y lumph nodes are clear. The reason my bloggs are so long in coming is one, because i just could not work out how to do them lol, and 2 i was too ill to even write. Now i feel i can write them with a clear mind.

I start 3 months of chemotherapy in June 2011,  my Onco was going to put me on FEC, but as i was born with a mild heart condition, Pulmonary valve stenosis, my Onco tells me that the E of FEC can cause...

    Part six
Alfie's mac nurse came round one day, he needed to go to the loo and became really upset because he had to ask for help. I felt so helpless. He needed to talk to the nurse and I got the impression he wanted to speak alone... I know he felt there were things he found easier to discuss with her and as much as it killed me that he couldn't talk to me about them, I wanted to give him the space to be able to speak to her. I said I was popping out for an hour to get a few bits n bobs and left them alone...

    Hope turns to reality
I went to bed last nit pretty distraught as you can probably tell from my last post. I can't even describe my thoughts and feeling I just know there was water pouring from my nose and eyes until no more could pour. I woke this morning as my better asks if I am still going swimming, my reply was a grunt of no idea as I felt pretty lousy aft an evening of crying. However I picked my but up out of bed got my swim kit and off I went. I only had an hour before I had to get home due to family visiting...

  • Living with cancer and needle phobia!
    The Beginning
My journey started when I found a lump last November and was referred to the Brest clinic. My husband asked if I would like him to come with me but I said no I was going straight to work afterwards so no point in him taking time off, so there I was in my work suit at the Brest clinic! The consultant that initially examined me said it did not feel like anything sinister but after having a mamogram, ultrasound and then a biopsy needless to say I did not go back to work that day. Sitting in front of...

    Recently diagnosed

    Hi all,

I am recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer, I was called for an early mamogram on 1st March 2012, I felt that this would be a breeze as I check myself regularly and have found nothing to be concerned about, they told me I would have the results in 2 weeks. Just 7 days later a letter arrived asking me to return for further tests, in just 5 days time. I checked myself and found a lump, how could I have missed that? I always check. Anyway went to the appointment, had another mamogram and an...

    Part five
On our return home Alfie insisted on still going to work. He wanted life to go on as normal as possible. I seemed to spend my days either being ok or doing the vacuuming in floods of tears!  Alfie started to become quite unwell... He seemed to be slowing down a lot, struggling. Bespoke to our GP and they arranged a McMillan nurse to come out and see us... She was the absolute best, I really don't know what we would have done without her... She became Alfie's confidante. I know he told her his...
