  • isabels oral cancer journey

hi my names Isabel, i am 66,and last july i was diagnosed with oral cancer, there was a large tumour in the floor of my mouth, which i later found out had spread quickly to my tongue, and around my jaw.

I was under a fantastic surgeon at the UCH in Euston, after numerous tests, exams, ultrasounds, mri, and a million and one other tests, throughout i was terrified, it was decided that i would undergo three rounds of a trial chemotherapy, then major surgery, and a large amount of radiotherapy. The date...

    Day 67

I still don't understand what some people expect you know.  You see lots of people with problems - hell maybe you read my diary and think to yourself - poor guy, I'm glad I'm not him! - well don't.  There are times when I feel sorry for myself, you always try to remain positive about things, but cancer is a horrible and scary thing.  The operation and post operative consequences of having 70% of your tongue removed are horrible.  You know what?  Don't feel sorry for me.  I really don...

    Posh afternoon tea giggles...

We went for afternoon tea on Sunday....at a very posh manor house near us. It was something neither me, dad or my hubby had done before and since mum & dad had a voucher for afternoon tea, me and Marc decided to go with them and be posh for the afternoon :)

Dad has had a bit of pain since Friday evening...sort of like a sharp twinge in his side. He played it down when he told me about it....and as usual tried to reassure ME and told me "Don't you worry love"...i know i'm his little girl...

    Day 66

Yet another day gone, yet another day closer to the dreaded treatments.  Still not sure how I feel about it, after feeling very stressed and down yesterday I wasn't much better this morning. It didn't help that I had to see the hospital dentist today.  Now, whats worse than going to the dentist?  Going to the dentist when they are specifically looking to see if you need any kind of work done (no matter how small) and any reason to remove a few teeth.  You see, the radiotherapy will reduce my saliva...

Is my mother nearing the end?

    Prognosis 6-12 months.

Completed 4 rounds of chemo, said tumour has shrunk and not spread it has always been in her bones and little in liver. Her next review is mid June. I am emailing about her current state of health. Last week she was fine more energy etc, however this week has been very different. Started with pain in her hip which went but now she is full of aches and pains. Now she is saying it is localised more in her lower back around her waist area. Past few days saying she feels more...

  • My brave brother
I'm not sure where to begin with writing this but I feel it may help sharing what we are going through. It all started when my brother Began vomiting regularly, he went to visit his gp and he told us that he had gallstones, he did not tell us the his gp had advised him to visit the hospital as she was obviously concerned with the vomiting and that he had started losing weight quite rapidly. It may seem strange that he did not share this but the previous year my mum had suffered heart failure and...

    I miss you

I could write a million poems, not one would bring you home.

I cannot deny how much I miss you and how much I feel alone.

You always show me unconditional love, guided me towards what's right.

You always stood by me and listened even when I'd try fight.

I never got to hold your hand and tell you how much you changed me.

I never had the strength like you, but now at least you're free.

You fought Cancer until the end, until it eventually won.

God wants to help us weak, by taking...

    Day 64

Another day closer to the impending doom of chemo and radio. Oh joy of joys.  I have managed to get some work done today, which was nice.  Some of you might consider that an odd statement, but getting some work done meant that not all of my day was taken up with things related to cancer.  In other words its another step closer to what my life used to be like before the cancer.  I'll take those steps however I can :-)

Thats not to say I got anything terribly meaningful done, I am attempting to learn a...
