    Update
    Hi folks

I've not updated recently since my forth cycle, mostly as I just couldn't get the motivation to.

As those who read the post know I had a pretty rough time with sickness, nausea, on my third cycle. When I went for my forth cycle pre bloods we discussed at length what could be done and the docs where pretty much of the opinion I don't need to have that much sickness and I was just unfortunate the anti emetics I was on, which they said were the best ones, just weren't doing it...

If I wish, will you come back?
I keep staring at the cards all around the living room. There's loads on every piece of flat space available. 'With sympathy' I want to swipe them all aside, hide them in drawers, throw them all out because that will make the house look more like normal. Then perhaps for a moment I can pretend that you have simply gone out and you will be back soon.

    Sunday

I am sitting here in my sitting room, the television is on,(too hot outside), my husband is sitting in the chair next to me and I am just wondering how on earth can our lives change so much in one weekend in the middle of May.  What we thought was a mini stroke that was affecting his speech has turned out to be a large brain tumour, some of which they have managed to remove but not all. We then had the histology results the week before last and told it was a malignant growth and last week at our initial...

    Dear Mum
I woke up crying today. OH asked me a simple question and I cried some more. My first thought every morning is 'she's dead, oh my god'. He thinks i should talk to someone. I cant see the point. Is not going to change things, is it? You will still be dead, and I will still be here. Perhaps I am being pessimistic. Should I try it? Perhaps its the NLP training in me, i know the flaws of the counselling model. I know that all they will do is sit while I babble on and are presuming I have some problem...

  • Round 5
    Round Seven!
I an now having Taxol weekly. Which does seem to suit me. I had three weeks of the high dose and was responding very well. But then had to miss a couple because of low blood count.. I have gone on and finished the course with out any further problems. My Scan showed no change so it has not grown but has not shrunk either. My CA125 is coming down so that's good. My Oncologist wants me to have another six but may not be able too my fingers and toes are affected by the taxol which may mean I have to...

  • Husband has primary cns lymphoma
    Bad news today
Bad news today. After 3 lots of chemo my hubby's primary cns lymphoma has not responded and is growing. Doctors are trying last attempt at chemo tonight. Am devastated - he is only 48, has only been ill since Easter and is my world. Can't cope with the thought I may have to face the rest of my life without him - we have been together for 30 years.

    The horrific news
I was sitting in my living room, on Skype to my parents in the UK. I can see it clearly. Mum was so upset after breaking the news, the C word, that she got up an left the room. I was in shock, to be honest. With no cancer history I couldn't believe it. She'll be ok, right? She looks ok? Forward 4 days: she's been admitted to hospital. They think she has an infection. Liver biopsy test results will take a week. Forward a week. She now can't walk, her legs have swollen and she can just...

  • A Brand New Me
The War Of The Worlds - Jeff Wayne

This morning I have the rare opportunity of the house all to myself for a couple of hours and I have plans!!

Someone was recently telling me how wonderful the 2012 The New Generation version of Jeff Wayne's The War Of The Worlds is.  I have heard a few clips of it and can't say I was very impressed.  But I promise I will give it a go another time.

But for now I have the 1978 vinyl version of the original double album out of the attic, and I can't wait to hear it again.  It is a concept...

  • Settling into chemo
    Reality of second cycle

Well, 6 days of doing a bit and sleeping a lot that suddenly gave way to a much more lively day on the 7th. Day 8 I had to pace myself but was delighted to get back to half an evening of singing with Cascade, our Barbershop group: the first time since my op in April! My friends have been really supportive, so I've resolved to go as often as possible in the next few months.

Here comes the sun, we hope, so the remaining days on tablet chemo shouldn't be too bad before my "week off". I do...

  • Lung and chest cancer – ask a clinical nurse specialist
Lung and chest cancer – ask a clinical nurse specialist. Blog Post 4th July 2013

    Hi everyone,

I had some very interesting questions from two people this week covering things such as imaging and coping with appetite problems when having chemotherapy. My replies are below.

I do hope they are helpful.

    By quintus1

My husband had T4N3M0 nsclc diagnosed last year, underwent concurrent chemo and radio. 4 cycles of cisplatin and vinorelbine chemo. 32sessions of radio. 13 weeks post treatment, CT scan shows the tumour has increased, but the oncologist says he's not sure if the increases...
