  • Finding out my Mum has GBM 4
    Treatment GBM 4

So 2 days into her treatment, we had to take mum back to hospital, she had what we think was a seizure and was suffering from urine infections, so they put her on more drugs and kept her in for a few days...

Now she is on day 5 of treatment, and all she wants to do is sleep, its not easy, I am trying to wake her up every now and then for a drink, and trying to get her to eat is just as hard as she just cant seem to keep her eyes open :(

Theres no guidelines on this, as everyone is so different, it...

    The Trouble With Genres

There is a problem with this word genres.  It doesn’t always adequately describe the music.  Some music can’t be put in categories.  I know we have to define a type, or otherwise how do we navigate around enormous web sites or music stores?  Even then the owners of such retail outlets can’t always agree on which category to put an artist.   However we persist with the word, I am probably guilty of overusing it.

I’ve been lucky enough to meet a lot of people lately in my travels and I...

    13th August - Human Again

So I've been feeling a little bit better this week. My mood swings seem to have settled down, my sleeping and eating have pretty much returned to normal and I can think straight.

One thing that hasn't changed though is that I'm still not enjoying people's company very much and I've been keeping my friends at arms length - kinda cutting ties with people. I know I shouldn't do this, I know I'll live to regret it, but people are already sick of hearing about my mum, I can tell. They've already...

  • Finding out my Mum has GBM 4
    My mum has GBM4

My mum kept telling me that she wasn't well almost every time I rang, and then my sister told me that it seemed quite serious so I flew home from Canada to see her (12 June 2013). I took her to the doctors on the following Monday, they had previously been telling us that it was due to her kidney stone (which was waiting for surgery), but she had been very confused, not making sense, hallucinating, having severe headaches, losing her balance and collapsing quite a lot and vomiting. My mum had suffered...

  • Losing Mum
There is hope I will cope

I spoke with my sister yesterday, and I feel better about speaking with my boys, she has pointed out the (probably very obvious) fact that when I talk to them it is ok to cry, and to let them know that its ok to cry, but alos that its still ok to have fun and laugh, and that they are not to worry about upseting me that they can come and talk to me if they have questions or just want a little cry, that we can cuddle together, I realise now that I am not struggling with this alone but have a wonderful...

    Grumpy me

Less blog / diary - more shouting at keyboard session.

Hubby doing well, holiday between chemo/radio and the BIG OP coming to an end. MRI and CT next week. Guess will be followed quite quickly by results consult and some vague op details. The bowel is to go, this we know. How much is left to join up with rectum as yet unknown. Permanent/ temporary stoma unknown. Dates unknown.

Hands still numb and tingly, feet still floaty. Potentially permanent effect of oxaliplatin.

Known - we must work. While...

    Ups and downs

Young people with me in the house.  Grandson and his girlfriend.  Talking with them as we don't see them very often is uplifting for me.  I forget for a while that I have a diagnosis.  They are reassuring as they say I look well.  We go out around the village and talk a lot and meet people we know.  Young people can be such a help to the older ones without appearing to try.  Wonderful company.

I haven't made a blog entry for a while. There've been ups and downs, new pains and old.  But overall...

  • Losing Mum
2-5 months Not nearly enough time!

A brief background.  I am 37 and live with my husband and two sons aged 4 and half and eight,  My parents have lived for many  years in the middle east due to dads work. my sister also with two boys lives in New Zealand, despite this we are still a close family and are in regular contact, the wonders of Skype. Two years ago mum unbeknown to me had been having recurrent bouts of cyctitis, she had been to see a specialist in Dubai and after various tests and scans etc, was diagnosed with a small bladder...

  • This wasn't in the plan...
The end of a positive week!

What a superstar mum is!! She was at MRI this week to have the "staples" removed from the hip replacement wound...48 in total, did she flinch?? Did she heck!!

She's also been out for lunch this week, and to her favourite shop - John Lewis! Dad took her and they hired a wheelchair as walking is still difficult but she is improving every day. I thought she looked quite poorly last weekend but she has had a lot more colour this week!

She's also had her hair done...first time in 10 weeks...
