    06/09/2013 - A Quick Update

I'm back at work after a couple of days off and it was nice to have a couple of days to myself. Still not sure how I feel about being alone. Some days I'm fine, some days I'm a mess.

We're currently waiting for my mum to have her next CT scan. They ideally wanted her to be on her chemo by now, or at least thinking about starting it but she's so weak and tired that they aren't going to do it yet. They've put her on steroids to try and help her eat, as she's only having one milkshake every...

    Sad story: Death at Home

This one is not about me, I've put an update on my status. It's about an old friend I met by chance this morning.  I knew his wife was ill, housebound and unable to get about at all. I asked him how she was. "She is at peace now" he said.

His wife, for whom he had cared for seven years, died a little over 2 weeks ago. She had been in a lot of pain and had made it clear she had had enough.  Her carers had been superb, he said, no complaints there. But she had hoped to be at rest and...

  • A Brand New Me
    Classical Music With Lyrics.

I often purchase a record because it’s being sold cheaply and I know that it is potentially valuable.  I rarely do this with CDs as I don’t know the subject very well. However one bargain caught my eye the other day.  I bought it for £1.50 including postage.  Condition was described as good as new and I knew I could resell it for at least £40.  It’s recently arrived, but unfortunately the condition is not good, which means I’d be lucky to make £5 profit. So another acquisition...

    a few thoughts

Since 2009 I have been through a lot and, whilst I have coped extremely well with it all, I am finding it is getting harder!

I thought it might help to jot down some of my thoughts...............

My first encounter with the demon Cancer was in 2009 when I was diagnosed with breast cancer.  A lumpectomy, sentinel node biopsy and 5 weeks of radiotherapy followed.  I worked every day of my radiotherapy, determined to keep some normality and was upbeat and positive every step of the way.  Tamoxifen started...

  • Finding out my Mum has GBM 4
    Stopping the treatment

So it seems a lot has happened since my last post, where do I start?  My mind is all over the place at the moment but it seems to help me to write it down...

20th August it was day 13 of the chemo treatment (seems to be an unlucky number at the moment!), day 7 of the radiotherapy and mum was getting weaker, she was sleeping most of the day, we were struggling to get her to eat and even when she was she would hold the food in her mouth for ages and wouldn't swallow it, she could barely help us to help...

  • A Brand New Me
The first LP I ever bought.

I was talking to some friends the other night and we got onto the subject of what was the first album we ever bought?   Everybody but me knew straight away.   A couple of days later and I'm still not sure.  It's supposed to be a memorable event but I'm struggling with this one.

I did have some albums as a child but they were all bought for me as my pocket money didn't stretch that far.  I also don't think they deserve to be called albums.  They were those budget compilations  that were...

    Recovery (hopefully)

Its been a while since I updated my blog on here, primarily because I maintain my blog mostly on Google+ and Facebook and haven't felt much like reposting everything again here.  That and latterly I have been busy,

So, whats been going on?  Well, after my last post I picked up a couple of bugs from the kids - a cold and a touch of the old norovirus.  It was not pleasant, I can tell you.  The cold quickly (in a matter of days) turned into a nasty chest infection - I remember one friday night where...

    Angry

Ever since I stepped foot off that plane I've felt like I could scream and swear at everyone. The minute we touched down in England it was back to the same old crap. Not even been back in England 24 hours to be off to Birmingham with my mum to visit my grandad who is becoming very distressed. My mum is struggling this week and I've noticed an awful change in my dad :( he's getting really sick and tired of all this crap but he knows damn well it's gona get a whole lot worst and there's nothing we...

  • Having the worst year and don't know what to do!
    Hard year!
A year ago today my grandmother was diagnosed with gall bladder cancer that had overtaken her body. She sadly passed away in march. As I was close to my grandparents this has completely turned my life upside down, I've struggled my way through university this year. Have just about started dealing with the grieving process.. However I've now been hit with another bombshell.. My dad has mouth and throat cancer.. He is having a biopsy tomorrow to find out the extent of the cancer however I am finding...

  • Getting on to the roller coaster
    Hospital tomorrow
An eventful few days. My mates and I have over the years swapped Friday and Saturday nights out to Saturday nights out to no nights out and then invented the curry club where we meet roughly every six weeks for a curry and a few beers to catch up on news of our lives and have a laugh. Such a night was pre planned last Thursday with me having been told on Monday that not only is cancer in my lymph glands but spread further as well....a fun night ahead. Add to that my PET scan at 8.15 the next...
