Getting Back on Track

2 minute read time.

It has been a while since I made my last post so I thought i'd do an update.

Things have actually been going smoothly, for the most part anyways. I told a couple of my flatmates about the whole situation and after 9  months my mum finally told my brother about it as  well (family politics nightmare).

As of now, two of my flatmates are aware of everything the others, as nice as they are, don't need to know, but I'm satisfied about who I've told and what I've told them. I went back home two weeks ago and it was really good to see that mum was doing okay, she was very happy to see me and I think I really made her weekend a bit brighter. She is still really weak and now uses handles to get out of bed and other physical tasks around the house which I found quite hard to watch. The good news is that the oncologist doesn't want to see her until late December now because he's happy with her progress.

University has become very demanding now, I've been having to read various academic articles which are not easy reading and hard to digest. Various essays deadlines, laboratory practical's and textbook reading seem to devour my life now although most of the material is actually quite interesting which always helps. Unfortunately as a result work has been piling up pretty quickly and I haven't been able to stay in contact with family as much as I would like, I feel quite bad about that. I was phoning every night now its only one or two times a week or so.

As a complete aside, the main issue that I have at the moment is the room that i'm renting. I feel slightly cheated as my room in my opinion isn't as good as any of my housemates, yet im still paying the same rent which I don't think is fair. Firstly, im right next to the kitchen and therefore get all the noise (all day and up to 2pm) as the wall isn't very thick. I also don't have a window so no natural light or fresh air. Everyone else has a window in their room and are aren't next to the kitchen so don't get all the noise and smells. Does anyone have any advice/ solutions?? I was thinking either a rent reduction but I feel this might make me quite unpopular, or alternatively a room swap? I know that they know my room isn't as good but im unsure what to say without sounding like an arse.

Hope all is well for everyone else :)
