  • Any Advice Or Information On Melanoma?
I need as much information on diagnosis of lung cancer as possible please
My nan has been diagnosed with lung cancer on Friday just gone, they have also said it has spread to her liver, and yesterday told her it's in her lymph nodes too, BUT she hasn't has any biopsies done, they're getting all this information of a CT scan, can they diagnose of a scan? Because with me having melanoma last year, I thought that cancer could only be diagnosed properly with biopsies, I'd really appreciate any information even if it's not 100% right, she got taken to hospital a few days ago...

  • My cancer story
google, telling everyone and everything in between

After diagnosis I found myself googling everything to do with cervical cancer. I knew I was scaring myself by doing it but couldn't stop myself. From stages to survival rates I looked at it all; especially survival rates!!

As if I wasn't scaring myself enough I then had to think about telling everyone. How was I supposed to tell those that I loved that I had cancer..... cancer......cancer! But that is what I did and very quickly I realised that I was going to have to be the strong one and...

    Diagnosis

My name is Jenny and I am 26 years old from Scotland. I have never written a blog before and don't really know where to begin or what to include but I have a story and its one I would like to share.....

I was diagnosed with Cervical cancer stage 2b in Septemer 2012 (not long after my 25th birthday). The irony here is it was my mothers gynaecologist, when she was having me, that diagnosed me. He helped to bring me safely into the world and now he is telling me news that could end my life at the...

  • Smashing The Stragglers...
    Sad Sleepless Nights
Some 5 months on from completion of radiotherapy I have made much progress. Finally weaned off pain relief and anti sickness meds, now just gargling salt water and aspirin constantly and on antacids. The major problem I have is that of a dry mouth due to saliva glands being destroyed during RT and this is stopping me from sleeping. I have tried temazapan to no avail. I manage 20 min bursts of sleep at best and then lie awake for up to two hours trying to get back to sleep, due to the dry mouth...

    People say

This always gets me people say don't worry about the future you can't predict it, Well actually with cancer treatment I feel like a mystic meg but always right. People say you can't be sure what your doing next weekend let alone a years time, Um yes I can, I be in a hospital bed having poison pumped though me. People say you can't predict the side effects, Um bet I can ,pretty certain my hair will fall out again, Can guarantee once again wine will taste naff, People say look you could get hit by...

  • Dear Husband, I will be there for you, every step of the way, right by your side.
    Our final journey has begun.

    The cancer has overwhelmed us.

Weeks maybe months if we are fortunate.

    No treatment.

    We are utterly devastated.

My heart is already breaking and we have yet to tell the family. I want him to live forever.

May 2014, secondary mets - 2 years on
Two years on, I hear us say "Here we go again",
Tests and scans completed it really is a drain.
Now in his liver we were told two mets, or possibly three
"A liver resection to remove the parts then you'll be cancer free."
35 staples, a few more holes his tummy is a sight
A treasure map, one good man and a nasty pirate to fight.
The kids now talk of Thomas Tank riding on the track.
"Choo choo" they say, repeatidly whilst Daddy lies on his back.

May 2012, the journey begins with Stu and Colin
My Daddy has a stoma, I think we'll call him Stu
And a little bag called Colin who collects up all his poo.

My Daddy started bleeding when he went to use the loo,
So he went to see the Doctor who decided what to do.

"An operation is best I think to sort this tumour out
Mr Harmston is the best there is of that I have no doubt”.

The operation went very well where Stu and Colin arrived,
My Daddy stayed in hospital to rest his weary eyes.

As days went by the pain grew less and...

    Utterly numb

The news isn't good at all. It seems that there is a tumour on hubby's brain now, confirmed by the mri scan from last week.

I have no feelings to express, no words, no nothing - just tears and more tears. I'm utterly numb and the very person whom I would turn to for comfort and love is still reeling from the news too. My gentle giant, my good and wonderful husband. The love of my life.

We are good people, all our lives together doing the right thing by our family. Leading a simple life...
