My first session of Chemotherapy and hair loss

I had my first chemotherapy session towards the end of Oct 2012 and because it was my first one my mum was able to come with me. We went to the Beatson together and I signed into say I was there. When the nurse came to speak with us to go through she spoke to my mum and we had to have that awkward moment when we said it was actually me getting the treatment. I have to say this situation occurred numerous times throughout my treatment, but we just laughed it off.

I was taken into a room with what...

  • Dear Husband, I will be there for you, every step of the way, right by your side.
How I admire him and am so proud of him.

He's doing really well. He feels like complete and utter sh*t but in his own quiet way he has accepted the inevitable. No anger, no regrets, no bitterness. He tells me twenty times a day that he loves me and I love him. He holds my hand whilst I cry, he advises me on my bleak and miserable future without him.

No topic has been off limits. He's so brave. We've sorted general funeral stuff out. We've made decisions about this and that. He doesn't want to die at home because it will upset the dogs...

  • BronB's Radiotherapy Journey - treatment to the Salivary Gland
5 weeks into recovery from RT
I will keep this really brief because I have a phone counselling session in sever minutes (and it is thundering outside!!) Since I last wrote I have seen my ENT consultant .... He prescribed Otomize (steroid And antibiotic spray for my ear). Today I am celebrating because I can hear in stereo again ... I cannot describe the pleasure and after my counselling session I am going to be listening to some lovely music! I am still taking paracetamol and up until Tuesday of this week I was also adding...

    Latest check Up
Just back from latest monthly check up and after a good chat now need to go for another ultrasound precautionary check for a lump in my neck. I am hoping that it is just scar tissue from my operation but naturally am worried it could be something more sinister. Just at the time when I was starting to see some improvements, eating more, off pain relief and anti sickness meds. The consultant didn't seem too alarmed so I hope for the best... Will keep you posted.

  • Numb,anxious,scared,worried... My journey in coping with a dying parent.
    The Beginning!

Welcome to My Journey of horror. This blog is about my journey in coping with a dying parent. I am completely new to this and have no idea what this blog will turn out to be. But I am sharing this journey for 2 main reasons. I would love to gain support fro people who are gong through what I am and can relate and understand but also so people can read this blog and know they are not alone either.

Firstly let me introduce myself. My name is Lorna I am 28 years old and currently a working student...

Looking forward again - thanks to the bees

Last week I went up to the Christie for a review and what I thought would be my final prescription for Capecitabine.  Although I've been suffering a bit lately (mostly from the Mytomycin), I was determined to finish the course.  So I was a bit taken aback when the oncologist said categorically that there was no way she'd allow me to continue.  My bowel is very inflamed, I've had a bit of a scare with chest pain, pins and needles down my left side, cracks in my fingers etc, so all in all they...

    IVF treatment

Before I started my cancer treatment I was offered IVF fertility treatment to freeze my eggs and give me the chance of using them if/when I was ready to have children. If I'm honest I was unsure about going ahead with the IVF treatment as it put back my cancer treatment by a month. On top of that I was dating someone and the treatment meant I couldn't drink; I remember sulking about this at the time- laughable now.

I had to inject myself every day for roughly three weeks and had to go to hospital...

  • Dear Husband, I will be there for you, every step of the way, right by your side.
How can one single day change our lives forever?

It's been almost a week since we got the worst news possible.

It's been a long week  - filled to the brim with emotion, love, strength, stress and a million and one other things that I'm too tired to write down. My head has a sort of running commentary on the situation, there is never a single minute of the day that I am not thinking about the fact that my husband is dying.

I have had some stress in our lives but this takes me to a whole new and unbelievable level - almost an out of...

  • Oesophageal Cancer - the truth
    Goodbye

    I couldn't write in the end, I couldn't talk and I couldn't eat.

I left this world on November 13th 2013 but will watch over my family always and forever. I was taken so young, just 62 and still lots of life left to live but it wasn't meant to be.

Good luck to those of you battling this cruel illness, live every day and grab every moment - leave memories and tell those you love and care about how you feel. It helps to say and hear I love you.
