  • After he has gone.......
Slammed by the grief monster today

Doug would have been 54 today, we always went away for the weekend for our birthdays and I cannot help but wonder where we would have travelled this time.  Two years ago on his 52nd we had a wonderful weekend in Brighton of course last year he was not here and little can I remember anyway.

Today I was expecting to spend time remembering in my own way this morning and then to potter on into today as I usually do on days I don't work.  What I was not expecting was the overwhelming feeling of being...

  • A Walk down memory lane
    Junior Favourites

I feel its time for another walk but am too unwell at the moment for the real thing.  So I thought one or two of you may enjoy a Saturday morning walk in the early fifties down memory lane.

So switch the Radio on...that's the one that does not have a screen..wait for it to warm up and then retune it from Radio Luxemburg (That's Keynsham K E Y N S H A M Bristol, Horace Bachelor) to the BBC Light Program.

The first tune that comes to my mind is probably a Freudian slip.  Tick tock tick tock...

  • Dyad's second time around
    Breathing

At the weekend I went to the monthly meditation session that I've mentioned before. It is held at the home of someone (D) who is a follower of Thich Nhat Hanh (known as Thay, pronounced 'tie'). I don't know whether D is a Buddhist or not. I don't know whether I am a Buddhist because I listen and respond to what I hear at these meetings, or whether I'm just a non-believer who finds the Buddhist way of looking at the world interesting and approachable, and above all kind and loving. I'm getting...

  • Problem keeping cheerful with recurrent bladder cancer
As a relatively young woman with bladder cancer who do I talk to?
I feel completely low with my bladder cancer at the moment. Was diagnosed with a low grade and non-invasive tumour 4 years ago at age of 49. I was shocked as a non smoker and otherwise healthy. The cancer recurred twice very quickly and I received mytomycin which held it at bay for 3 years. At a recent cystoscopy I was told that it had returned - a real blow but I had very speedy TURBT and my consultant has told me that the cells brushed away easily but there is abnormality over my right ureter...

  • Salvage radiotherapy - another journey
Radiotherapy underway, day 29/33 to day 33/33

29/33 Tuesday 06 May 2014: Weight 74.9 kilos. I was feeling very upbeat today as it is the last week of my R/T. Not quite so upbeat last Friday evening, when I passed wind, explosively, or so I thought. Turned out I’d soiled my pants. I had been warned that stomach gas would build up but hadn’t expected quite such an effect. This morning, was about to clean my teeth, when I felt a bit of gas build up. Sat on the toilet as a precaution and the same thing happened, a forceful fart and some faecal matter...

    Well at least
They have a plan, The power that be have decided that I need 4days of chemo to prime my bone marrow for stem cell harvesting, Which to be frank I'm not looking forward to, I'm always amazed when the drs are surprised when you say your not looking forward to chemo They always seem to say don't you want it? Well in I don't,i mean who does? I'll endure it yes But want it no

  • BronB's Radiotherapy Journey - treatment to the Salivary Gland
3 weeks + 2 days into recovery .... the dichotomy of wanting to look well

It is just over 3 weeks since my last treatment and this past week has been very up and down. I'll tell why in a moment .... but first I am thinking about my ENT follow-up on Tuesday afternoon. I wonder what the next steps will be and when the follow-up scans will commence? I am thinking about this because although I titled this blog 'recovery', I am only referring to my recovery from RT ..... the emotional recovery and the ongoing though about life after cancer are much bigger considerations....

  • Facing the reality that it's terminal.
    My story...

My father was diagnosed with renal cancer last year, and has since has an operation to remove the infected kidney (left). At first we didn't believe the diagnosis because he didn't seem 'sick'. But knowing the risks we (the family) vocalised the risks of not having the surgery to my father, and made him realise that it was his best chance of survival (though he could've died on the table). Thankfully he pulled through the operation, and his remaining kidney was functioning well enough that he didn...

  • Woppety - uncertain result of CT scan
    CT scan inconclusive

Hi everyone - I wonder if anyone else has experienced this?  Finished chemo 7 months ago following colon cancer surgery (stage 2 tumour), lymph nodes clear but some 'veinous incursion', therefore chemo given as 'belt and braces' to hopefully protect me for the future.  Was considered 'low risk' and felt confident.  However, CT scan has shown a small nodule and node on the site of the surgery, therefore another scan in 3 months to see if it has grown or not.  If grown then possibilities...
