    Today has been hard

Sam has a pain under his ribcage. He finds it hard to cough as the muscle goes into spasm and feels like it's drawing his back to his front. I called the GP on Friday as he wanted to see someone.  She was with us within half an hour.  Thankfully she was able to tell us that Sam does not have a chest infection, his lung sounds are clear and she can feel nothing that would make her worry.  She also was pleased to see that, since her last visit several weeks ago, his fluid retention is no worse, it...

    Back at work

Just finished my first week back at work and it is like i have never been away.  I am glad to be back and it does take my mind off things.  I know i want to get back on with my life after operation and diagnosis but it is still at the top of my mind all the time and i find it hard that people at work dont want to talk about it and i find i just keep smiling for them and keep things to myself.  I suppose they dont want to think about it but i find i need to talk about it but all the time but with family...

  • finding the strength to support my family
    hi guys

Ive only very recently joined this site as I want to research as much as possible about cancer and how we find the strength to fight the emotional and physical battles with loved ones. My dad was diagnosed in Nov 2008 with bowel cancer and had major surgery In Jan to remove the tumour followed by 8 courses of chemotherapy, his treatment went reasonably well and his side effects were relatively tame compaired to some possible side effects that you read about.

Dad is not one to be fussed over and he...

    CHRISTMAS TREE.
I KNOW ITS STILL QUITE EARLY,

ANOTHER FIVE OR SIX WEEKS TO GO,

BUT IT PUTS ME IN THE MOOD FOR XMAS,

AND IT MAKES MY FRONTROOM GLOW.

I HAVE PUT UP MY CHRISTMAS TREE

ITS A BLACK ONE AND ITS NEW,

DRESSED UP IN SILVER  SHINEING BALLS,

    WITH SOME RED ONES,

    JUST A FEW.

WITH LOADS OF SPARKLING FAIRY LIGHTS

ITS A REAL TREAT TO SEE

IF ONLY YOU COULD SEE IT TO

    YOU WOULD AGREE WITH ME.

OUTSIDE ITS VERY COLD AND DARK

    INSIDE ITS WARM AND BRIGHT

AND MY CHRISTMAS TREE IS LOVELY

    SENDING OUT ITS MAGICAL...

    My Mistake!

A while back I contacted Breast Cancer Care to see what support they could offer me seeing as my local hospital dont seem to care too much about secondary breast cancer patients. When I got my primary 2 years ago they swamped me with info, phone numbers and my very own breast care nurse, who called now and again/popped in when I had appointments etc. This time I got squat!! After I had surgery to remove a node from my neck (very painful) they gave me a leaflet for a lumpectomy but had crossed out...

if this were the place; i would tell you how ill  I have felt for the last week, bbb awful

feeling sick and desperate for some sleep  but just lying in this massive bed  like a six acre field. Thrashing round  it top to bottom and hanging over the side it dont make any difference suddenly it all feels lumpy and orrible.

saturday at 03.00 i was changing all the bedding . not that it was grubby in any way i just needed that crispness of fresh sheets and pillows. IT never made any difference exept I...

    THE HILLl

    The Hill.

Im standing at the top of Castle gate near the old castle doors looking over the old coastguards cottages and over the wonderful vista that is Scarborough south bay, still as yet unspoiled by scarborough councils .Its early in the morning and there is a slight frost on the gravestones and surrounding grass edges.

Here comes the sun, showing its bright edge over the horizon and bringing a wonderful “curtain up” to another day, like the star of the show appearing from the back...

  • My new life
    The day after

    Saturday 7th November 2009

Went back with my wife to see the consultant, he is being very positive that they will be able to removed the cancer and re-connect my colon to the rectum again. Hopefully age is only my side as I was only 50 in April and I haven't really had many symptons.

Told friends and family, all are shocked but they all seem to know someone with colon cancer who has made a good recovery and are all doing well.

    I have to be positive

I have a twin brother, so he needs to be...

    Told work colleagues

    Monday 9th November 2009

I had a team meeting with my department and told them the news, spoke to a few other people. All were supportive and positive

Found it hard to concentrate on work, felt really tired. Hopefully it is just stress.

Still wanting to hear about the date for the MRI and CAT scans
