The day after

Went back with my wife to see the consultant, he is being very positive that they will be able to removed the cancer and re-connect my colon to the rectum again. Hopefully age is only my side as I was only 50 in April and I haven't really had many symptons.

Told friends and family, all are shocked but they all seem to know someone with colon cancer who has made a good recovery and are all doing well.

I have to be positive

I have a twin brother, so he needs to be checked too

    Hi Peter

I was diagnosed with colon cancer in June. My 2 tumours were in the sigmoid colon (near the rectum) and I had a bowel resection and radical hysterectomy on 30th June. Fortunately my consultant was able to reconnect me so I have not had to have a colostomy. I was discharged from hospital within a week and have recovered well. I'm now undergoing 6 months of chemotherapy and today have reached the halfway mark (hooray). Please feel free to ask me any questions and I will try to help. No doubt others who have gone through the same surgery will be in contact.

    Good luck

I had rectal cancer and the Dr removed it all plus 2 lymps nodes which were infected. I have a temperary colostomy but the Dr saved enough of my rectum to be able to reconnect it after I have recovered from my chemo. The chemo is an insurance policy, the eye and microscope can't detect any tiny molecules that may or maynot be present. Having a colostomy is not that bad, in fact I don't have any of the trouble I had before ie IBS for 6 years. So I wish you luck with your op and treatment. Best wishes Julie X

    Hi Peter

Hope all goes well and surgery is arranged soon for you. Keep in touch and let us know how things go. If you need chemotherapy after surgery, it's not too bad. No hair loss and any nausea can be kept under control with tablets. I had to have chemo because out of 17 lymph nodes taken during surgery, 1 showed cancer cells, so the chemo is belt and braces. Keep in touch with how you get on.

    Onwards and upwards!!
