    A Heartbreaking But Comforting Day

    A very strange day indeed.

I think I was so exhausted trying to please all the people all of the time and failing miserably in the majority of cases that my sub-conscious decided enough was enough and although I woke up at 7am and went to the loo, I got back under the duvet, cuddled the pooch and we slept soundly until 10.30am.  Wow and hurrah for snuggly sleep-ins with the added bonus of a furry hotwater bottle that doesn't need filling with hot water!  I can't tell you how lovely it was - just...

  • Cant beleive it
    The waiting game

Over the last two years I have been to my  doctor sevaral times with persistant diarrhea.  He kept saying .... are you loosing weight  "no" do you feel unwell "no" . Theres nothing to worry about then.

About the time of the symptoms starting he changed my BP tablets and on the leaflet it says may cause 'diarrhea' along with a whole host of other side effects.

This eased my mind and I put up with the diarrhea for a whole year ,then went back to the doctor and insisted he...

  • The nightmare begins
    Week 1

this week we went to the hospital to discuss radio therapy  to the brain . It was decided that the liver cancer was more important as the tumour  in the brain has been removed . So next week off to a different hospital to discuss chemo therapy to the liver . Mum is still being very brave  mean while I am having nightmares quite literally when I do sleep. She has her beloved dog back with her keeping her company and i have stayed with her this week as much as possible. We wrote her requests for when...

  • I don't want you to leave Dad....
Will I ever be 'as happy' again...?

I was just wondering, when you do leave for the last time Dad will I ever be 'really' happy again - or will my life always have this tinge of sadness which it has now already before you've even gone?  Everything looks different, the whole world around me.....it is always there in the corner of my eye like the splinter of ice in The Snow Queen....the knowledge that some time soon you will be gone.  At the back of every thought I have now is the constant low key sadness and I feel it lying...

    oesophogeal cancer treatments

Some months ago i read a blog from Vickie re her husband Andy who i believe has the same cancer as my husband. She referred to a COG trial run by Prof Ferry and other possible treatmments. i would love to hear from her. Can anyone advise me what treatment can be given when swallowing starts to become difficult again and all roads of chemo and radiotherapy have been tried. Many thanks

Downer... (So I Will Not Be Offended If You Don't Have the Strength To Read It)

Hi everyone.  Hope you are all as well as you can be and that life is being good to you.

Our Gordy has cancer tumours in his liver as big as my fist and is in a lot of pain, although he is still up and about.  He wants to go to Dubai next month to see our niece Tia who will be visiting my brother Paul with her mother (they live in the Phillipines).  He went to the hospital to get a form filled in to confirm the drugs he has to take and also saw his consultant.  The news is not good.  They don't think...

  • Changes in My Mum
    My Mum - Denise Leahy

It's shocking the decline in my Mum's health. Yesterday she was so weak even her voice, i really thought she was dying!! She kept saying she was cold even though her flat was hot. She's hardly eating or drinking. Perhaps it's the side effects of the RT. She was too weak for chemo but the RT seems pretty lethal. In January the Oncologist said she had approx a year without chemo, now the prognosis is 3-4 months and it's only because i sneaked a look in her file that i found out. I have had to chase...

  • Daughter to a lymphoma Mum
Wednesday..........not as full of woe as you are lead to believe!

Well today brings, as expected, mixed news.............

Mum has had her results and things are not as bad as could be which is a big yeah! The cancer has infiltrated her bone marrow and she is also suffering from very dry skin, has had a lump develop and overly active sinuses (i.e. she’s a snot monster in our words, having had a cold since November and it is showing no signs of shifting). They have said that they want to treat the platelet issue rather than the cancer, which is still pretty load...

  • Roland Ratso - The aftermath
Tom-ass gets me in trouble with Irene

Well dear reader, you will remembers well the antics of Roland Ratso, the not so little bleeder that crawled up my derriere and took so much effort to get removed, leaving me with a permanent stoma called Tom-ass. I have been quiet for some time becaue I haven't really had much to report but last week Tom-ass excelled himself. Lying in bed, "I felt a smell" and gingerely extricating myself from the aforementioned bed I  made my way to the bathroom, carefully ensuring that the contents...

If You Can Spare Any Prayers And Hopes Please Send Them This Way

March 2006 My 34 year old Brother was diagnosied with Bowel Cancer (the day my Daughter was born). He had part of his bowel removed and had a bag for the best part of a year. He recovered well after the treatments and the op he had. In Febuary 2008 my brother got the bad news that he now had lung cancer (i was 5 months pregnant at the time). Again he had an op to remove part of his lung and again he had treatment. He had his sperm frozen as doctors told him that he would not be able to have children...
