    Ovarian Cancer
I have not blogged for quite a while so to fill you in. I had Topotecan in May it was a weekly infusion again. At first the chemo looked like it was working then my blood count was too low every third week so would have a week off even though the dose was lowered. For the Chemo to work I needed it every week so the chemo was stopped in December. I am starting chemo again next week as CA125 was rising and scan showed the cancer was growing. I will be having Taxol again but on its own this...

    Tigger is in the house!!!!!!!!!

I am beyond excited, so happy, I don't think I'm going to sleep a wink tonight.

Mum phoned this evening and for the first time in several weeks, she sounded like my lovely, happy, positive mum. Not sick mum, not tired mum, not slightly confused mum......just MUM!

Even better, she phoned to tell me that they are planning to discharge her tomorrow. I literally cannot believe it, I am so excited!

She has passed all the discharge tests, including walking up and down steps and making a cup...

  • Vulva Cancer Melanoma- my story so far
Mar 13 Yet MORE stitches but got the all clear!

I felt like crying earlier, after having another 7 stitches removed, which today’s nurse also couldn’t see till I showed her exactly where they were, I got home and found at least one more at the top of my vulva.  The hospital clinic next available appointment is next week, another week’s healing, another week of my flesh melding with the suture.   Getting that/those out is going to HURT.  My GP’s surgery is closed this afternoon and their automated system doesn’t allow for making...

    Could have been better...

I’ve not been writing… I’ve been grumpy…. basically I’ve been awaiting a CAT scan and then the results of said scan, to find out ‘what next’. Its proper horrid when your life is up in the air and you’ve no idea how to plan for the months or weeks ahead.

One of the results of this inability to plan is I decided to invite a few friends round for a birthday tea… there… that’ll teach you pesky medics to take away my ability to plan…. I’ll plan...

    A positive update

Haven't posted for a few days, but we're still in a bit of limbo land at the moment with mum making good progress after the surgery and waiting for the histology results.

Had a tough night on Sunday when it all caught up with me - I was also TOTM and I think that the cumulative effect took hold. I took the day off on Monday and pottered around the house getting on top of chores which made me feel better.

Spent yesterday morning sorting out a new PC for the office, a long overdue task, but...

    Thanks Twirly & Lou

Thanks Twirly & Lou, almost as soon as I listed this I found myself crying even more, so I think I might have worked out, its too quick. Also, I’m crying more now than ever. Just cant get used to the fact that shes not coming home.

Little story; up until I was about 30 I never cried at all. Not when my dad died or any reason at all. The misses n kids used to say ‘you’ve got no feelings, no sole’. Then a good friend of mine went into the Q.E. with cancer of the stomach; his sister had the...

Are patients people or slabs of meat?

Getting really fed up now. Why do doctors play on peoples emotions? Do they understand that patients are people who are ill, rather than slabs of meat they can play with like toys?

I wanted to write a blog on how well my dad was doing following his operation, however that is not the case. First we played the hocky cocky - you can go home tomorrow - now you are staying in - you can go home - no your staying in - out - in - out - in. Don't worry we have the shake it all about as his stoma bag keeps...

    Happy Mothers Day

I went up to Warwickshire to see mum this weekend, first time since Tuesday and in that time she has been moved back onto the "normal" Ward 43, rather than Step Down. It's still a pretty high dependency unit, but she has a TV again and it's a lot more relaxed for her.

A bit of an odd couple of visits. On Saturday when I first arrived, she looked like a frail little old lady sat in the chair. Not something I had ever imagined for her because she's such a bright outgoing person....

    Time waits for no one

Hi all, I’m going to say sorry for writing so much, but it does say get it off your chest – or similar.

I’ve said somewhere on here that we have been together over 45 years, married for 43 years 7 months, when she lost the fight with cancer. That was 31st Dec, or just 10 weeks ago. For the last 22 years we worked together as a team, supplying & fitting camper parts. (we ordered a new van early in Sep, to covert for ourselves, before she was diagnosed, so we could go when we...

"hear my words that I might teach you"

I started this blog on my Mum's birthday so today being Mother's Day seems the perfect time to update. I could never have known just how significant that title would become.

Some of you have been with me along the bumpy road for which you know I am eternally grateful. Although I no longer feel the need to be here, I will pop in from time to time to see how you are doing or if indeed my experience can be of help to anyone else. Might have to change the user name though as hubby...
